Nowadays Katatonia indeed has the most kickass drum sound to my ears.
Other specific ones I like are probably albums people here don't listen to much.
Motorhead - Bastards
Saxon - Unleash the Beast
Grip Inc. debut, Woodhouse Studio in general including Ceremony of Opposites of course
Danzig debut, South of Heaven
Rotten Sound - Murderworks _________________ Cheap thrills: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=114166081967523&1&index=0 |

Others: Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith, Saxon - Innocence Has No Excuse. I also think that Running Wild - Masquerade has pretty much the perfect production you can have for HEAVY METAL. _________________ Planet Earth is great to visit but you wouldn't want to live there |

Since we're on the third page of the thread and no one has mentioned them yet, maybe I'm just a fan of this style, but the albums that stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of pulverizing, heavy as hell, massive drumming for me are:
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
Monstrosity - Imperial Doom
Malevolent Creation - Retribution
Solstice - s/t
I also love the drumming on several Immolation albums, particularly Close to a World Below, but I think that has more to do with the mix than anything else. _________________ Good deals with: Numerator41, addison, deathsleep, witch sermon, xyosefx, invinCIBility, Weltbrand |

Generally I don't notice it but I quite like the drum sound on these ones;
Onward to Golgotha
Piece of Mind
Clandestine has a nice tone, I assume it's not acoustic drums though

Profundis Tenebrarum (Spain)- Pathogenesis
Drummer Alfred Berengena puts on a dizzying drum clinic. Speed, technique and a bombastic style of drumming with a nice drum sound courtesy of Santa Fe Drums on this release. If the music wasn't all that good, I still would have bought this for the drumming. |
