I'm flying in Friday afternoon, is a taxi my best option for getting from the airport to my hotel?

Either taxi or you can take a bus from the airport to downtown:

Thanks, are taxi's readily available downtown, or should I take down the number for a cab company to call after the shows end each night? I'm about a 5 minute drive, but a 45 minute walk from the clubs supposedly.

Also, anyone doing anything fun Saturday or Sunday? Anyone know where to get any grass for the weekend?

You can easily find taxis downtown every night. You might have to walk a couple blocks from the Bolt Thrower show to find a cab, but that's about it.

Shows I caught:

Thursday

Pinkish Black (bunch of weird sounds keyboards and vocal effects. Hard hitting drummer. No guitar or Bass)
Bitter End (Hardcore, sometimes the old school AF/Cro-Mags kicking in. Arm flapping pits.)
Power Trip (Thrashy Hardcore. Everyone went apeshit and talked about this band all weekend. I thought they were just alright)
HOD (locals/friends. I seem em a lot)
Benediction (played tight and fast. I as upfront headbanging the whole time.)

Friday

Magic Circle (sabbath style. One of the bands I wanted to see. Nice short set)
Imprecation (band is alright, I like when they go slow, when they go fast they lose me. Never has held my interest for too long)
Iron Lung, Cruciamentum, Tragedy (watched these from outside, socializing outback with friends instead. Good party atmosphere out there)
Bolt Thrower (Everything I was expecting, set was crushing. Stage diving galore. I sang alone and headbanged til my neck was sore)

Saturday

Didn't catch any Chaos shows. My band Hammerwhore played a free show at Headhunters on Red River. First time playing Austin since 2009. Played most of the album we released for Witches Brew. Crowd enthusiastic and kicking ass)

Sunday

Eternal Champion (eager to see this band as its my friends, the only did three songs but those three song were killer old school heavy metal inspired by the headliners of the night Manilla Road)
Speedwolf (High Speed MötorMetal sing alongs)
Mitochondrion (only caught last two songs. Sounded great wish they wouldn't have played same time as Speedwolf)
Abigail (Blacking Speed BlackThrash. Headbanging fist shaking)
Satan's Satyrs (one song, kinda wish I could have seen more)
Manilla Road (playing a two-hour set. I figured I might break away for a moment a catch a couple of song from Absu, but nope. I was engrossed in Manilla Road's swords battle and Heavy Metal attack for the entire 2 hrs. )

Just returned home from this. Great fest, great time. Bolt Thrower, Framtid, Anhedonist, Kromosom and The Rats were personal highlights, as were the pedestrian bridge show on Thursday and the Prank Records breakfast show on Saturday. My only complaint was that the sound left a bit to be desired at the 11E5 warehouse and the inside stage at Red 7, though some bands did manage to sound pretty decent in each venue.

Fest was great, and hot, as always...not into the 11E5 venue though.

Really enjoyed Magic Circle, Rotten Sound, Cruciamentum, Anhedonist, Speedwolf, Mitochondrion, Absu, and Integrity. Found Bolt Thrower to be quite boring live, and Infest to be just alright. Look forward to next year.

Did anybody catch Akitsa? Wondering what their set was like since their recordings are so diverse.

I was there, they put on a great show. Although their studio recordings are diverse the show setlist seemed to fit together pretty seamlessly. The vocalist nailed all the different styles of delivery, which I think was my favorite part of the set. All in all a good mid-paced stompfest, as was expected. Go see them if you get the chance.

Reminded me A LOT of when I saw Bone Awl a few years ago. Wish I could have caught more of their set.
