Modern KREATOR

I admit I was somehow surprised to read several negative comments on this band's latest records in the Destruction thread. It goes without saying that nothing will ever top the early stuff, but in my book especially Violent Revolution and Enemy of God are solid albums with at least a couple of great songs. I'm less impressed with Hordes of Chaos and haven't really listened to Phantom Antichrist enough to have an opinion on it. All in all I would say they're more convincing than late Destruction -if that means anything.

Violent Revolution is pretty damn good.
Enemy of God has about 3 songs that I like a lot, and the rest don't do it for me at all. Same deal with Hordes of Chaos. Haven't heard Phantom Antichrist yet.

Maybe I should dig up my old tapes, but I never got into Kreator at all, even the classics.

I played the crap out of Enemy of God the year it came out, so I voted for that...love that album. Violent Revolution kicks ass as well, of course.

I hated the drum sound on Hordes of Chaos...just couldn't get passed it. The songs sounded good live, though.

Haven't heard Phantom Antichrist.

Well, you said modern Kreator. : P I believe Violent Revolution is the best out of their newer thrash albums, but their 90s era was better imho. Perhaps not from a traditional/metal point of view, but some of these albums are actually better.

I enjoyed Violent Revolution and the 1st half of Enemy Of God. Haven't really paid much attention to the next two.

I left the post-Coma of Souls pre-VR albums out on purpose as I was reasonably sure of that they would lead to "it's gay" kind of comments. Also VR represents their return to a more or less traditional form of thrash. Feel free to bring Cause for Conflict and those other records into the picture if you wish.

Cause for Conflict is my least favorite out of these four albums actually. Renewal is better and Endorama & Outcast sound way, way more fresh than anything Kreator did in the 00s. On the gay remark, I am not a metalhead, so I couldn't care less. : P

Well I like Endorama too but I think it doesn't sound much like real Kreator, while CFC is an obvious product of the Pantera age. I confess I listened to Renewal twice in my life and haven't ever heard a single note of Outcast.

It indeed doesn't sound like real Kreator, but it's good music and way more convincing than any 00's Kreator album. Outcast happens to be the first Kreator I ever listened to (or Pleasure To Kill, I'm not sure) and I still like it a lot. Actually, I wish they'd play more songs from that one live and leave Phobia aside for once, that track is so overplayed I no longer enjoy it like I used to.

Violent Revolution is a decent album but honestly I don't care about their newer recordings.

I don't hate the new stuff but they turned from a necessary band into an unnecessary one IMO. The funniest crack I can remember about a metal album was the reviewer who referred to "Enemy of God" as "Enemy of Good." Still makes me laugh.

I don't think their new stuff is bad at all, definitely a victim of the trend of shitting on old thrash bands (except Overkill) for not recording stuff matching their early years (what are you people on? And Destruction's Antichrist is mine favourite of theirs). I quite enjoy Endorama to, I don't care about three albums before it though.

Looking back Enemy of god suffers from a bit of filler, but the great songs on the album the titletrack, Suicide terrorist, World Anarchy, and When death takes its dominion are great tracks in the vein of Violent Revolution and even the longer conceptual the Ancient plague was a great track for showcasing the band's songwriting abilities. The newest album was basically Enemy of God pt II but with thrashier songs and more anthemic moments, it was definitely on par if not better than Violent Revolution and I haven't bothered with Hordes of Chaos.
