Loved the first one. Evil Dead 2 is my all time favorite movie. Anyone seen the remake and is it worth my time?

It's out already? I thought it was in theatres on May?

Anyway reviews indicate it's gore enough

Looks pretty gory from the uncensored trailer, but it's still got a very modern, plastic look about it. I'll probably pick it up on DVD when it costs £1 on amazon.

I tend to skip needless remakes of classic horror movies but I have to say, the trailer has me wanting to see this....

I'm gonna take a real life woman out to see this soon. Should be pretty sweet.

I wasn't too sure about it either, but after watching the trailer a couple of months ago, I'm convinced. I'm definitly going to check it out when it hits theaters in Belgium. It will never beat the original Evil Dead's and Army of Darkness though, those must be among my favorite movies ever.

from the trailer it's two different worlds compared to the original but it seems like it's a worthwhile remake for a change.
It will be in European theatres in mid May, US started yesterday.

I'm going tomorrow I think. Was all ready to hate it but reviews have been good, even from people I trust. I suspect it's going to be like the remake of "Dawn of the Dead" - unnecessary, not as good as the original, but entertaining.

More gore doesn't make ANY remake better, they all focus on more brutality instead of atmosphere, setting etc.

And no CGI also doesn't change much when it is filmed digital and that cast of nobodies instead of ASH really is the final nail in the coffin, before even seeing it.

Looks like it completely misses the point of the originals. Evil Dead II works because it's so goofy and unreal...which makes it eery in a way that no amount of hyper realistic CGI could manage.

I read a while ago that the new Evil Dead actually rejects CGI and goes back to the old fashioned special effects. That's how it's supposed to be, get creative and make a puppet! I have no expectations with this latest installment but since I do not go the cinemas or download movies I'm looking forward to seeing it on tv in about 5-6 years.

The first two are of course timeless. That's how you make a movie work without any money. All you need is brilliance. Peter Jackson did the same with Bad Taste.

Well just checking the trailer again and CGI or not it's still trying to be as realistic and as furrow-browed as possible. 0 atmosphere, 0 anything that makes it stand out from all the other shit multiplex horrors from the past decade or so.
