I discovered Voivod with the outstanding Killing Technology, but Dimension Hatröss is just perfect from beginning to end.

Rediscovered this one this year, it's clearly a great effort.

Nothingface is my vote, and an album I feel more would get more credit if it was more rawly produced/guitar heavy. The rhythm section is stellar on that record though... made me wanna play bass at 14! And the songwriting is a leap forward in terms of cohesion. But Killing and Dimension are close seconds. To me, classic Voivod ended when the line-up changed after Outer Limits, though what has come after is passable enough and they are still a great live band with tons of energy.

early 2000s i was using it and Negatron as litmus tests for whether i would start a band with anyone. you can probably guess how that went.

Not sure why exactly. The stars have aligned or something. But, Voivod are FINALLY clicking with me, and after listening through their 80's releases, my vote goes to Killing Technology. All are great in their own right, and time will tell which will remain at the top, but for now KT does it for me best. The thrash to weird ratio is just right on that one.

Negatron and Phobos are so underrated. Both are masterpieces.

It's almost impossible to pick just one, I love them ALL, though the weak ones for me could be Angel Rat, Katorz & Infini, but all their albums have something special/new/awesome!!! Phobos from the Eric Forrest era have the most amazing guitar sound ever, it's so fucking heavy, the whole record transports you to another dimension! Their peak would be the holy trinity Killing-Dimension-Nothingface, they did something unique with those records, exploring and creating their own sound! WAP & ROAR are brutal Thrash Attacks at their finest... VOIVOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

VOIVOD are one of my favourite bands.
If you are not familiar with VOIVOD yet, I can give you the following short information about the LPs.

War and Pain is the most mangy and dirty of all, because it's the first one too.

Rrröööaaarrr is the second and therefore a bit more mature and with a better production. The typical Voivod Space Riffs start on this LP.

Killing Technology is perhaps the Magnum Opus of the band.
Many think this album is the best.

I always like to compare Dimension Hatröss with the Justice for all by Metallica. Very, very progressive thrash and totally crazy.

Nothingface, well...
Here you have left your chaotic Thrash roots behind you and sounds more rocky.

If someone is interested in FLAC files of the LPs he can get in touch.

Depending on what mood I'm in... but Angel Rat is probably my favourite, they regularly play The Prow in their live set.

To The Death demo is really underated, the power of a band in their youth and a ghetto blaster capturing the energy!
