Yes, I know, but just to finish this annoying discussion for once, it started with this:

Thorns perfectly blended Voivod and Hellhammer with a bit of schizophrenic weirdness.

Aha, great statement. So the "schizophrenic weirdness" is what we actually hear and the ominous HH-influences only exist in some inaudible counter-reality?

I remember buying "W&P" on cassette when it came out and it just felt so much rougher than anything else at the time. I liked it but "Rrröööaaarrr" was much more to my liking. Now, I prefer "W&P"- it's still rough & I love the lyrics! Wish I still had the original cassette around...

Finally got around to digging into Target Earth. What a fantastic record. The recording/production is fucking amazing too, exceptional clarity between instruments.

I still don't like it, but I heard a new song from their upcoming EP and it was good. Much more Voivod in essence than Target Earth, I don't know if I'll ever appreciate this album cos it sounds too polished and kinda forced to my ears.

done with them. and that hurts me to say having worshipped them since i was 12, musically and artistically. between Away being a cunt when i got the chance to meet him and get my copy of his book signed and now Blacky having quit (again), i cant make myself continue to care. i have a chance to see them this month and all i can think of it is how much i'd rather see Eric Forrest and his guys do Negatron and Phobos material.

Dan Mongrain can just start a new band. get Snake to do vox I'll give it a chance. if the last of Piggy's recorded material (that they said didn't fit Voivod) is ever released I will surely acquire it. but it would take some real magic to get me to buy any new Voivod material and i don't think Mongrain can do it for me, talented though he may be.

Both Phobos and Negatron are great. Voivod still play Forlorn live.

I always thought The Outer Limits was a bit underrated/overlooked. Yeah it's sort of "poppy" but the songs rock and the production is crisp. I really like Angel Rat too minus Clouds in my House.

EDIT : I voted Nothingface which is the definitive work by them IMO.

Clouds In My House rules, but then again I really love those two albums, especially Angel Rat!!

Can't stand it! Laughing

Angel Rat is definitely the "darker" album of the two.
