Listen to De Mysteriis and then pop in Live In Bischofswerda to understand the ultimate meaning of 'fucked it up'.

You don't think the most recent stuff makes up for Slagry?

Guns N' Roses
Metallica (though I really enjoyed them live in 2009)
Sepultura
Manowar (well, I never liked them but to me they are just a caricature of a metal band. Just like Spinal Tap with that one difference that Spinal Tap know they are caricatures)
Burzum

Cryptopsy - one of my favorite death metal bands reduced to metalcore garbage

Against me (not metal but whatever) - pathetic how much they changed, some of their old songs would now apply to them even

Lightning Swords of Death - never great, but now trying to piggy back on the orthodox black metal bandwagon is just sad

Correct. The obvious answer concerning Maiden is Virtual XI . That album was Maidens equivalent of this :

I don't hear anything I like in the recent stuff either, unfortunately for me. So, no...

This came to mind as well... and you can add Kataklysm post Temple of Knowledge.

I felt the same way when "Mantras" came out, and I passed on the most recent one for a good while because of it. The new 7" totally kicked my ass though and I ended up getting into the other new material as well because of it. Perhaps another listen will help.

Or not, haha.

I wouldn't mention Nargaroth because they never had a possibility to fuck anything up, they were fucked up from the beginning.

they definetly got back on track with Fear of the Dark, but to imagine Maiden in the 80s being so great and suddenly No Prayer for the Dying and that atrocious Holy Smoke video comes along like a slap in the face..

MORBID ANGEL - but could come back with a solid "J" record.

SEPULTURA - never coming back.
