I personally can't stand the earlier stuff anymore. I was one of the many who wrote them off after Rebel was released, but these days the later stuff actually sounds much better to me. Most of their older material is just too "jolly" for my tastes. The Age of Nero my current favorite.

"Now, Diabolical" gets my vote. I haven't checked out their last album that much.

The exact opposite for me... I really cannot stand the Black n roll crap they're doing these days.
Always gonna go with Dark Medieval Times and the Shadowthrone as their masterpieces. |

Now Diabolical for me. That's where they perfected their new style better, some amazing riffs on that one (sadly also a couple of fillers). _________________ Permaban him

| I voted for Now, Diabolical, because it's the catchiest. Age of Nero might be the darkest, though, and of course Rebel Extravaganza is the most inventive. Volcano has some of the best riffs they've ever written. Really a great, overlooked discography here. |

True, consistency has never been their forte. What do you think about Age? _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

I like it a lot. It has a darker approach as someone else pointed out but still keeps the rocking approach intact. Excellent groovy/headbanging riffs on this album as well. _________________ Permaban him

| Oh come on, how can you look beyond Satyricon's actual best album Rebel Extravaganza for this poll? |

While I obviously enjoy the elements introduced on Rebel it still doesn't change the fact that it's the most inconsistent album of their career. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

What exactly is inconsistent with it? |

It points in one direction while going in another. I don't know... The mix of old and new just didn't cut it for me in this case. Not that it's all bad though. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

Besides me, only 2 votes for Volcano???
Whilst Rebel is basically superior, the nostalgia factor for Volcano is huge for me. _________________

I think that's the way a lot of people feel about Rebel as well. It was a gateway album for a lot of people I know, released at the peak of Moonfog's popularity. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/

"The Age Of Nero" for me. Like the older stuff for nostalgic reasons though. _________________
