I fail to see your argument. Why aren't they avant-garde?

Because it's the way it is. I have always been way more into avant-garde than proper black metal, so I think I am well aware what this term stood for.

Don't be a douche. I know exactly what avant-garde means and I think you don't. Please explain yourself.

If you think so, cool. I'm going to listen to some avant black metal.

Go read up on what avant-garde actually means instead. You might learn a thing or two.

Yeah, you're really just being a nitpicking twat. Avant-garde means experimental so I don't see why Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord can't be considered avant-garde.

"Avant-Garde" in Metal means often that the band in question considers itself smarter than the members actually are, reason is an ego-boast after initial success. The result is mostly annoying crap.

Best example: Into the Pandemonium

Not as bad as "transcendental" black metal.

When Ved Buens Ende quit, there was a different Norwegian band that followed the path of VBE: It was Smile Carved Sour. Great stuff.

Also Code has influences from VBE and fits the "Avantgarde" naming.

Honestly though, a lot of the albums mentioned in the OP are what happens when experimentation leads to not sounding like black metal anymore.

You're a dick. My first post name-dropped a handful of albums, a lot of which were albums pushing the boundaries of the genre. I take it you didn't give any of it a listen. Rolling Eyes
