strange that no one named kvist for a very "ahead of its time" songwriting and musician skills. over all its surely not modern enough but pushed boundaries like not too many bands of that time!

seriously I recommend you Whirling (swe) - faceless phenomena.
it's from 2009 or 2010, yes sorry, but if you seek for total ved buens ende worship, then get this instantly.
dudes seem to be close to the armagedda/LIK/lönndom posse.

Also check out Organ "Apoplexy in Six parts". Very heavily VBE influenced on the main songs then some noise/electronic tracks

VBE type stuff here:

noise/electronic

Also, though less VBE and more some black metal take on early Godflesh and no flashy musicianship I necroommend Slagmaur.

RIP thread

This.
Instead of just some good recs, we have the metal-archives style, nowhere going argument what is truly avantgarde, what is only pretends avantagarde, and what is avantgarde within the avantgarde. While we're at it, please also guide me to enlightement with defining and proper classification of "progressive black metal" and "experimental black metal", and explain why Nokturnal Mortum never was NSBM.

You're just jealous that I'm in the enviable position of having impeccable taste in black metal. Get back to me when you come to the realization that atrocious rockstar black metal off-shoots are of inferior quality.

I only have Min Tid Skal Komme, but that definitely fits the bill. I know their later stuff was even more out there/weird/shit, but haven't properly taken the time to find out.

Cool album. I have the Candlelight reissue with the Darker Shade of Evil ep. The vocals make me cringe b/c it sounds like it fucking hurt. Guy fucked up his voice recording it so it probably did.

Fleurity was a total shit band and that DHG "666 International" was a HORRIBLE album. It really makes me aggressive when I am forced to listen to such music longer than 5 minutes.

And what is "Avant-Garde" about early Aeternus, Aura Noir, Hades or Darkthrone "Plaguewielder"??? You guys must be nuts.

Vulpecula?

I chose the Peter Schilling cover, because I'm super gay.

Although, I really just considered avant-garde to be an arrangement of unconventional noise. Such as the many works of Frank Zappa incorporate this aspect, with all the whistles and all that jazz (not literal jazz, but just an all encompassing phrase)((Although his jazz work was awesome too)).

Absolutely nothing of course. Whoever mentioned those bands as being avantgarde is clearly a grindmonkey-level clueless sack of shit.

You could seriously call anything avant-garde. This thread is getting ridiculous.

I haven't listened to it in about half a decade, but I remember Rebvblika's Katastrof! being very "avant-garde" and from the early(ish) 00s. It wasn't awful to me back then, but I can't say if I'd still enjoy it if I put it on today...

VBE is one of my all time favorites, and they're basically the end all be all of "avant-garde" black metal for me.

I don't care about anything they did after it but "Min Tid Skal Komme" is a great album.

I really like Written in Waters, but I'd like it even more if he didn't struggle to sing in key for 85% of the clean vocals. When he's on, it's perfect. When he's off, it's goofy as fuck. I could do without the vocals on that album in general, come to think of it. The fact that I still really enjoy it regardless is a true testament to how great the album really is otherwise.
