Spotify is pretty cool for music to listen to while working

trip hop, piano lounge, smooth jazz, soft blues, funk... everything's there

It's good for all those bands that only have 1-5 good songs, and all that music you don't feel like you need to own because you only occasionally put it on for studying/reading/working.
Also it's great for bands/songs that fit in the "Guilty pleasure" thread

yeah i'm really into rap, but for the most part I know that I will never listen to any given rap album enough to want to purchase it. So for $10 a month I can have it all in one spot and listen as much or as little as I like. Along with the ability to stream pretty much any mainstream rock music I like as well, sabbath, stones, beatles, etc

Tons of good shit on Spotify thats easily accessible to throw on while I'm working. But I also use it to stream my local library and scrobble through last.fm so I basically use it exclusively for any music I'm listening to on the computer. The design is kinda buggy though.

I disagree. There's so much music over there, one can always find something interesting while browsing through different playlists.

I actually use Spotify for 95 % of my listening these days. It doesn't have everything I like, but is sure as hell has enough. Basically stopped buying physical releases (MC ages ago), apart from the occasional CD or LP here and there. Maybe 2-4 times a year at max. Spotify just is so damn convenient. And I also find myself listening mostly while I'm outside walking, running or commuting or whatever. More rarely at home.

So it works just fine for me, and don't need to fill my home with useless shit cd's anymore.

BUT. I am a little bummed, and I never thought I would say this, that Drowning the Light is not on spotify, because "From The Abyss" was actually fucking amazing. Had to listen from youtube.....

i have never found music on spotify that i didnt already know. i tend to use label's webshops to find something interesting by looking at their demotapes and trying the ones that look cool and dont have retarded bandnames.

No use for Spotify. If I want to listen to music when I'm not at home, which is the majority of the time (work, commute, gym), I'll use my iPod. I prefer to listen to full albums rather than playlists, and I'm able to carry around files of all my CDs/LPs/tapes in my pocket. Really can't beat the iPod classic.

I've used spotify as my main source of music when I'm at the gym. It has a decent enough selection for that small amount of time during my week. However, now that I have the ability to rip my tapes and records onto my computer, I will be converting those to MP3 and putting them on my phone instead.

I used to have a massive mp3/flac collection, but over the last year I've transferred my listening habits from torrent sites (RIP what.cd) to using Spotify for casual/streaming and buying vinyl for things that I can't live without. I'm much happier doing things this way. I can't imagine not having Spotify, 9 times out of 10 it has what I want to listen to (and it's a great tool for discovering new bands ranging from dark ambient/neo folk to post punk to you name it), and I can stream it instantaneously without having to load up a torrent app and downloading it, likely to only listen to it once then delete it.

Plus Spotify is ridiculously cheap, and I'd rather pay a few bucks a month for it than keep my computer on 24/7 and seed thousands of albums to keep my ratio healthy. Downloading mp3s seems yesteryear to me now. Then again, I guess vinyl is as well. It really depends to what works best for your listening habits, and what method of music consumption/storage you find most satisfying for your needs.

I use Spotify on my PS4 and XB1, works perfectly well and the quality is all around very nice sounding with a pair of turtles.
