Ordered Coronation zine #1, very curious about that one, especially in terms of design.

And a certain rag collector will be sending me The Winding Sheet #1, as well as a copy of the first Call From The Grave zine. Cool

Read The Winding Sheet from cover to cover over the past 2 days. It's a zine with lots of potential due to the editor's writing qualities and connections, but I feel in this issue still too many interviews follow a basic template of clarifying band history, possible influences, lyrical themes and concert plans. There could definitely be a bit more engagement between interviewer and interviewee to make the conversations flow a bit more naturally.

I like the zine's minimalistic lay-out, although in many segments it looks as if someone forgot to hit the enter button twice after a paragraph (which is likely to be a formatting error of sorts). I'm also hoping for a bit more content than just interviews. Not necessarily reviews, but maybe concert reports, guest contributions, anything to spice things up a bit more.

In any case I'll check out the inevitable 2nd edition of this one.

Cheers man, I have the guts of issue two ready to go. I will be sticking to the interview only policy as that is all I'm interested in putting in it, to be honest. I'm not against adding guest contributors, and that is a definite possibility.

There are a few fuck ups in terms of layout as you mentioned but I'm working on not repeating them again!

As for the interviews, those are all valid points and something I will consider. I am basically interested in bands' creative processes so that will always remain my focus; I'm not interested in giving it any sort of angle, if you get me. I hope to probe a bit deeper next time, so bands, bring your own lube!

Yeah, I think you can notice that you are an active musician, because you obviously have a big interest in the 'back-end' of band existence. Not a problem at all, but for example I preferred questions like "I noticed this in your music, was it possibly influenced by this or that band/idea" over the more generic "tell us about your lyrical themes".

I'm also in favour of editing out overly brusque or short answers, but I have no idea what the concensus is among zine editors.

Anyway, do you know when the new issue will be out?

No idea. I am waiting on two or three interviews to come back and I don't believe in deadlines! I'd rather bands spend the time they need to send back good well thought out answers.

I also have a policy of not editing out answers. The odd brusque answer is alright with me once there is enough substance elsewhere to make up the difference.

Gae Bolga #1.

New zine that is very promising. Features interviews and some takes on philosophy. Brainy, but never pretentious.

Now that's a nice collection of old & hard to find zines you got there, no doubt about it! Would it be possible for you to scan some of those issues for the "zine scans" topic? I would probably cut my right arm off to take a closer look at stuff like Chamber of Sorrow, Crimson Arcainium, Praise Eternal Night, Nocturnal, Eternal Darkness or Black Montanas of Thy Septentrio...
