Agreed. The Japanese release with the 2 bonus tracks is absolutely mandatory.

I agree with the statement earlier that Defenders is quite an underrated album. You cannot deny tracks like The Sentinel, Freewheel Burning, When the Night Comes Down, Jawbreaker, etc.. are easily Priests finest moments.

Other than that i'm usually spinning Screaming, Sad Wings, Painkiller, Hell Bent, and Sin After Sin regularly.

Heh, agreed. Also, among the first things I heard from Judas Priest were Painkiller, Turbo and Ram It Down - enough to send anyone home crying. Not sure what I've missed since their career goes way back, but I'm not looking for any more of similar traumatic experiences... and no more of that vanilla flavor every man's heavy metal. Please, that is the worst.

And "Breaking The Law" I mean... I just.. I don't even..

Maybe it's too difficult to give this band another chance. But you know what, Heart Of A Lion rules (thanks, RACER X!).

Agreed. I chose Sad Wings of Destiny but probably would have voted for Unleashed. The first one I got was Screaming For Vengeance. People who don't like this band are wrong.

Also, one of the best bands I've seen live, hands down.

First 4 tracks on Defenders are on par with the best Priest tracks back-to-back, etc; but the second half of the album falls so flat, there's no way it even contends in the top five Priest albums for me.

You really should give Sad Wings of Destiny and Stained Class a listen. It sounds nothing like the late 80's/Painkiller material.

They were heavy metal gold all the way up to Stained Class. You can hear the compromises start to seep in around Killing Machine and especially on British Steel. After that they became completely useless for me.

You mean 'defenders..' is useless? If yes you don't really like heavy metal..

100% agreed.

Halford > Bruce & Di'Anno
Downing & Tipton > Smith & Murray
Phillips & Travis > McBrain & Burr

I never really liked Steve's way of writing in Iron Maiden, but I guess he's the better bassist. Whatever. All round I just like Priest better.

Somewhere, somehow, the Nifelheim twins are very upset about this thread.

Voted for Sad Wings.

Yes, I don't like anything from that period of Judas Priest. You don't seem to understand English. Do you want me to try Ebonics?

Yeah, only side A of "Defenders" is worthy Priest and up there with some of their best material. Side B of said LP is horrible. And British Steel and Screaming For Vengeance are not THAT special.

Of course Sad Wings (pretty much the best metal album ever), Sin After Sin, and Stained Class are pretty much metal royalty as those three albums for me represent the pinnacle of the genre.

I think Painkiller is also a killer album too.

I loathed any Priest post Killing Machine for years. Now I have their 80s discography minus Turbo/Point/Ram it Down. I can get behind Defenders/Screaming/British Steel in some capacity but don't give me any bullshit that those are even on the same realm as their 70s output which is arguably some of the finest metal ever crafted. Most of the 80s material is just enjoyable hard rock dressed up in metal imagery, pop music.

you are right at Turbo/Point/Ram it Down, although there are some heavy metal classics on those.examples 'Heading Out to the Highway', 'Hard as iron'...
i believe JP records after Painkiller are really useless.

UNLEASHED IN THE FUCKING EAST!!

But since it's not on the poll I went with Sad Wings, Stained Class being a close second.

Same here. I'm still stymied by the intended track order for Sad Wings. I have the original Gull LP and it lists Prelude as the first song, but on the LP itself "Side A" starts with Victim of Changes. I've always wanted to believe the band intended "Prelude" to be the album opener (for obvious reasons), and Victim... is just a perfect Side B opener.
