One album I still haven't heard is Cast In Stone... Been meaning to listen to it however.

I like that album. It gets zero respect but it has some good songs (Flight of the Hydra, Evil One).

But with At War... and its title track Venom announced the real darkness to come and lit the black fire which would set ablaze Norway and the rest of the world some years later.

You're sure about that?

Yes I am! Very Happy
I must precise that I was speaking about the overall feeling of this album - I do not mean that the Norwegians and the others were consciously influenced by At War... or recognized it as the album that started it all for them which would be obviously wrong. I'm just saying that, according to me, the title track embodied the spirit of black metal better than the punk metal songs which were the core of the previous records.

whereas black metal has teacher's pet and sacrifice.

Shocked
I might reluctantly "get", why people have a problem with "Teacher's Pet", while strongly disagreeing though, but "Sacrifice"...really?! One of their greatest songs in my book and certainly one of Cronos' best vocal performances!

Oh, and early VENOM still wipes the floor with ANY new band coming up in ages, just sayin'...

the song itself is alright, but the way cronos spells sacrifice out is just retarded.

Exclamation
I like S-A-C-R-I-F-I-C-E. It's like a Scripp's Spelling Bee in a metal song.

Yes, except for those Vegan Bodybuilding NSBM bands from Russia that play Metalcore. And the new demo #8 from Orospu Çocuğu.

Welcome To Hell will always be my favorite Venom album. At War With Satan and Black Metal follow in that order and that's all the Venom I need. Possessed isn't nearly as bad as some would say but it just wasn't as good as the first three.
