Manilla Road, I only listen to them casually so I'm not a huge fanatic but I would probably say "Open the Gates"

Saint Vitus, start at the beginning and grow with the band (Saint Vitus 1984 and Hallow's Victim 1985)

Pentagram start with the s/t (aka Relentless) LP, then go back in time to the early stuff comps and if that works for you pick up the 90s stuff.

Scorpions... Taken by Force

I agree with the others but with Manilla Road I'd also suggest the album Metal along with Crystal Logic. It features less of the boring meandering that is so prevalent on their other albums.

All bands have a series of patentable classics, but if I would choose one place to start for each I would mostly agree with the consensus.

Manilla Road - Crystal Logic (as I mentioned in the Crystal Logic thread)
Saint Vitus - st (but my personal favorite is Die Healing. It's an oozing, creeping, creepy record full of drug induced hallucinations and mental illness)
Pentagram - Relentless (not completely fair to the First Daze Here compilation which is absolutely mindbogglingly great but sounds almost like another band, which it for the most part was.)
Scorpions - In Trance (what a perfect production that album has)

re: scorpions.

the first side of in trance is great but the album doesnt hold up on side b. im no sure why this album seems to get more attention than their other early output. i would say start with taken by force. it may be the best album in the sense that almost every song is great. but some of their best individual tracks appear on other records. lonesome crow is excellent but not as heavy metal oriented. fly to the rainbow is also fantastic.

re: saint vitus.

start anywhere. its all good. i think the live album has a good cross section of their output so maybe that will give you an idea of which songs you like most and you can check out the albums with those tracks.

manilla road - for the start "cristal logic". after that "the deluge" and "open the gates". that are the best albums from that band.

scorpions - mhhhh very hard. BLACKOUT is a must have.
if you like live recordings start with WORLD WIDE LIFE (1985 - legendary live album MUST HAVE) and TOKYO TAPES (1978)

MANILLA ROAD - Crystal Logic, The Deluge

ST. VITUS - I started with Born too Late, went earlier and then newer. That or Hallow's Victim.

PENTAGRAM - Relentless, a classic.

SCORPIONS - I started out with Blackout.

I would definitely start with Taken By Force by Scorpions for the most well-rounded 70s album. The other albums are great, but you can't beat an album with Sails Of Charon on it.

What other people said about Pentagram and Vitus. Manilla Road is beyond me, can't stand them.
