Is it true that Westboro baptist church are planning on protesting at his funeral?
They really know how to win people over...

Recently they haven't been doing any of the protests they claim to be planning. It's just a ploy to stay in the media, and it works every time.

Yapp, some of them really are. Not exactly a tribute.

^ I didn't filter. Just post anyone I find, don't care about awful or not.

Only the thought counts, we are certainly not at a photographic exhibition or in search of a new Pulitzer Prize's hood.

That's preety cool about The Kings paying tribute to Jeff. Was hoping there was a vid of the team as they came out into the ice.
The vid of Jeff is a bit interesting. Very rarely I ever heard him speak.
Never guessed he disliked the 'rawwr' vocals and enjoys B-52's.

This topic says enough about the importance of Jeff Hanneman for Metal.

I'm too young to play the guy who grew up with SLAYER but this band has/had a crucial impact on many generation I think. Some kind of gate to more violent and vicious Metal.

Any metalhead is able to recognize a Hanneman/SLAYER riff in a second, so evil and harsh !

So, thank to him for these riffs !
HAUNTING THE CHAPEL !

I grew up with Slayer 10 years ago when I was 13, what does it matter as long as you're dedicated? Only means I never could have seen them in their prime. If I could have been born 15 years earlier I would, not really my fault I wasn't. Old bastards should be glad people like me or you are "getting it right" so to speak and not hopping on the retarded deathcore trend. FUCKING SLAYERRRR is not a trend.

I was 14 when God Hates Us All was released, but unfortunately it was Metallica that was leading me through the coming years. Listening to old Slayer back then was almost like listening to punk for me, too much of relentless speed and shredding. Guess I wasn't worth it.
Slowly getting into Metal besides big mainstream names from like 2006 on I didn't have a good image of Slayer because Christ Illusion sucked pretty much and they toured with Hatebreed, In Flames and the likes.
So I still didn't really care about old Slayer and up until today I own nothing more than Reign in Blood and a Live DVD.

So when I read about the death of Hanneman friday morning it wasn't that much of a shock for me like for others here. Still I felt very uncomfortable with it, more than with the usual (too early) passing of musicians.
Someone posted the Hell Awaits album on Facebook and within minutes I realised on how much I missed out all the years.
It got worse when I saw all the posts in honor of Jeff throughout the day from bands like Deströyer 666, Vomitor, Embrace of Thorns or labels like Invictus Productions.
I guess some might think now I'm becoming a Slayer fan because of the Hanneman-Mania, but it's not that.
I clearly admit being stupid for over a decade in regards of Slayer and it saddens me that it needed this occurence to realise it.
But if there's just one single positive thing about those sad news it might be this. Who knows how many people will listen to old Slayer again just because of this, who knows how many metal-/deathcore kids will check out his legacy now.
Each death bears new life and this might bring a lot more people to appreciate some traditional und essential extreme metal.
Luckily I made my way to the music this forum is about also without Slayer, but I guess it would have been way faster with them.
I'll grab a copy of the Back on Black releases for this years Record Store Day of Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits and Live Undead / Haunting The Chapel as soon as possible.

R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman

That`s one of the most honest messages I have ever read on this board!
It somehow took me a few years to really appreciate the greatness of Slayer as well. Although I already owned one or two albums of them in the 90s and even managed to watch them live in Vienna in 2000 together with Testament it wasn`t until one or two years later when I got Hell awaits on a record fair on vinyl that I got into them for real. Hell awaits is still my fave album of theirs and according to me one of the most evil albums ever released!

Luckily I had the chance to see him on stage ages ago...do someone remember the legendary "Clash of the Titans" tour? One of the dates was in Milan, Italy and - of course - it was a devastating gig!

R.i.P. Jeff...
