Been meaning to pick up this album for years, and now that an LP reissue has come out, it seems like a good time to snag one. However, I'm concerned about how cheap these seem to go for. Does it sound/look really shitty or something? Anybody have one or know more about it?

Relapse just did another pressing this year, but the one from a year or two ago was done on 180g wax and sounds pretty good.

I don't think Repulsion got the same sale marks as Morbid Angel, Entombed, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, etc. re-issues. That's why the lower price probably. I think it was the same for the Comecon LP re-issue. I have seen it as cheap as $10 in one distro. Brutal Truth vinyl re-issue was priced at 50% off at one point at the Earache web store. Once again, poor sales.

Thanks for the replies, I'm always wary of major labels doing reissues. Cool

Confusing thread.

The new reissue is also on Relapse (not exactly a 'major' label), and is probably the same quality as their 2010 reissue.

I don't know what you mean by 'cheap'. I think SRP on them is like $18.99.

vs
"Remastered" http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=13458

Not really sure what's confusing about it. I thought it was obvious I meant the most recent reissue (otherwise I would have specified an older press), and in terms of metal, Relapse is huge. Relapse has them on their site for $15.99 now, and I've seen several sell for $15 or less on ebay/Amazon/etc. Somebody else mentioned seeing it for sale for $10 at a distro. So sounds like you're just nitpicking.

It's kind of to be expected that most represses will have some degree of compression. I have a couple reissues that have terrible distortion and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. But I also have a few that still sound decent enough for the average non-audiophile and are worth it for a cheap price. I was simply asking if this LP was unlistenable and one of those albums with terrible distortion.

Interesting page!

I'd still recommend buying the re-release, I have the first repress like Mr. Holy Ghost and the 1992 CD version, can't make out a big difference soundwise.
Just compared these versions:

http://www.discogs.com/Repulsion-Horrified/release/1571905
http://www.discogs.com/Repulsion-Horrified/release/2325111
http://www.discogs.com/Repulsion-Horrified/release/1080081

I can definitely hear the "Visceral Sound" brickwall mastering on the 2CD reissue, not sure about the vinyl (could be sourced from the remaster and than again be remastered for vinyl). The new master is mostly louder, it's not like there was a big dynamic range in Repulsion's music to begin with.

Maybe there's a little bit more distortion in the mid frequencies, but it's hardly noticable.

I hate Relapse Reissues cause they simply done loudness war on their re-release cd's in the early 2000's on all their classics. And now they master for vinyl from that shitty sources. This stinks.

I have the Relapse '92 CD version coming in the mail from Aaron Freeman. I hope the sound wasn't fucked off at all on that pressing. Anyone here have it and the original? Any difference in sound?

From what i'm told the Southern Lord 2LP reissue is still the best version of this release on vinyl since the original. The current reissue sounds fine though, i think i have the same one or the 2010 version not sure.
