Morbid Angel - Covenant & Domination

Really? I can somehow understand the other calls so far, but Covenant/Domination? Especially Covenant deserves all the praise it gets imo.

Covenant is one of the best selling Death Metal albums of all time, so I think it's safe to say that it belongs on the list.

"Domination" surely wasn't hyped, this was during the time when MA was boycotted by mainstream-media.

I don't think that the OP meant all of the albums meeting the criteria set out were necessarily undeserving of the praise and attention they got. Some were, some weren't.

Those two MA records are definitely deserving and were definitely on every metal fan's CD rack in the 90s. Hell, thanks to Beavis and Butthead, Covenant was a lot of people's first death metal album.

Exactly.

Not in Scandinavia. Here it was the most critically acclaimed Morbid Angel album since Altars. Every magazine here had them featured on the front-page. It was a massive release.

I did now, but "hyped" does not equate with "influential" or "good-selling".

Children of Bodom - Something Wild + Hatebreeder

I like the band but there's no doubt these two albums were hyped way beyond their merits back then.

Machine Head and In Flames have been bad bands in one way or another since day one up til today. No "debut was good" treatment here, sorry.

Morbid Angel's C and D are if not classics, very good at least.

Pardon me if my definition of a "hype" is different to yours, but I post what I want anyway. Wink

Otherwise we can just copy-paste the catalogue of Nuclear Blast into this thread.

Hypocrisy's Abduction was one immensely popular album for one.

Wasn't Sepultura becoming quite big at this period? Guess they started to become very popular at this time.
