i recently got my hands on a cassette player for my stereo and i haven't picked up any cassettes since the mid-90's. preferably black metal releases, but what are your top 5 cassette releases over the past 1-2 years? is there anything out there that you picked up months ago still just blowing your mind?

It came out in 1995, but North "Thorns on the Black Rose". My buddy gave me the cassette about a year ago, fucking incredible and underrated album. some Polish depressive black metal, it was only released on cassette and cd. Still blowing my mind, really hoping I don't burn it out.

usually anything I grab from the labels/distros Analog Worship, CW productions, and Parasyte Curse,

specific favorites

*Eisenwinter. (own like 3-4 eisenwinter tapes and love all the output)

*Also love listening to raw hardcore punk tapes from W-tapes. Lots of great crust, d-beat, and hardcore. Love listening to the Koszmar tape, which has lyrics in sung in polish, or the Thisclose tape, which is Discharge - Grave New World worship.

I love cassettes, and aside from the ton of real ones I own, I have 2 plastic shopping bags full of dubs and mixtapes ive made over the years.

Try the Seigneur Voland/Chemin De Haine split (Not sure if I spelled that correctly) some very good stuff to look forward too anyway, tape is probably one of my favorite types of formats, even though I've always heard the same line all my life "It isn't real if it isn't Vynil" just let them shitheads go along with their day, for now tapes are the shit. Some killer material!

some of my favourite tapes are:

Gottesmörder s/t
I bought it off the band at one of their shows and I love this release, it's atmospheric black metal which sets a great mood and the sound is excellent.

Wolfblood - Banner of Might
great melodic black metal

Elu of the Nine - Maurerische Trauerdrone
Absolutely sublime funeral doom/drone with a great production as well

Tomhet - Samblade Sotkvæden
black metal: this recent collection is a very fun listen, I think it got quite some attention on this board anways

Yellow Eyes- Silence threads the Evening's Cloth
Atmospheric black metal: I like this tape a lot and I think it's much better than the recent full-length they put out this year.

Paysage d'Hiver - Das Tor
the only Paysage d'Hiver tape I own they are usually pretty hard to get or expensive at least, but the low-fi approach makes any paysage d'hiver material perfect for a tape release

I don´t own very much cassettes but the one I´ve played most over the years has to be Kataxu's Roots thunder.

Recent cassettes that I really enjoy:
Panphage - Ursvol
Pseudogod - Deathwomb catachesis
Nihill - Woestenij
Palace of Worms - Lifting the veil
Throw Me In The Crater - Demo

I have just a few tapes, always preferred CDs, but Pseudogod/Blaze Of Perdition split really looks nice. I was lucky to find it very cheap.
