A friend is heading to Finland Wednesday and he'll be spending a few days in Turku and Tampere. Any stores/pubs/clubs he could check out? Thanks for any info!

http://www.pispala.fi/rajaportinsauna/sauna.en.html - more worthy of a visit than any of the bars.

Swamp Music is supposed to be a great record store, but tends to be expensive, I haven't dared visit yet for fear of spending the rent.

Swampmusic has two stores in Tampere (close to each other) and is the best Tampere has to offer.
Levykauppa Äx has stores in both cities. They're nothing special, but might be worth a visit. For record stores in Tampere, that's it pretty much.

The best 2nd hand book/comics/CD store is Lukulaari, though most of the stuff they sell is in Finnish obviously. (Address: Puutarhakatu 23)

In Turku there was a record store of No Sign of Life/Kvlt, but I guess they closed?

Thanks for the recommendations. I sort of had this romantic notion that every second store in a Finnish city would sell Metal vinyl... Laughing

Closed down well over a year ago.

Vinyl is propably the most profitable format for stores now so I'd be suprised if there is a record store in this country that doesn't sell vinyl. Second hand or new ones.

I rarely visit the local recordstores in Turku, but Recordshop X and 8raita are the two recordshops in Turku. The former is your average record shop where you can find the basic stuff easily, whereas the latter is oriented toward (indie) rock/pop/electronic sort of stuff and might have something more special (I haven't visited them for a long time, so I can't guarantee that). I don't know about your friends musical tastes, but I'd visit 8raita for their second hand section.

Yliopistonkatu 11b, 20100 Turku.

There's a fleamarket called Manhattan few kilometres outside the city centre that has lots of records for sale and at least I have made occasional bargains there.
