I recall the first press of Marduk's "Those of the Unlight" sounding pretty bad. Anyone hear the repress? How does it compare?

Perfect all mistakes from the original press have been fixed.

Iron Tyrant has done a perfect job on all Mortuary Drape reissues. Sound and presentation are excellent.

That image is from The Mechanic, right? Last scene in that movie is gold.

THE CRYPT produces the nicest metal reissues. Peaceville and Svart come to mind as well.

I know back on black is a hit or miss, but the In The Woods - Heart of the Ages 2LP looks good and sounds great. Couldn't ask for more, for a release otherwise impossible to get.

+1

i don't have a lot of the really nice packages that come out these days but my purtenance discography LP is an excellent presentation. I also own the autopsy and darkthrone reissues by peaceville, no complaints at sound at all. I dislike gatefold single LPs but i guess they serve their purposes.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when labels tack on completely useless live bonus tracks to reissues which A) decreases the quality of the audio due to more space on each side being used B) unnecessarily raises the price C) screws up album continuity (for those who are already well familiar with the release). If they add demo/ep tracks or unreleased bonus songs from the same era that's ok, however.

Completely and totally agree. Fuck off useless live tracks. And don't "improve" the original artwork either please.

I think this is precisely how this thread will be the most helpful. I've heard different things about Back on Black: that only the albums released during a certain period were subpar; that they are hit and miss, etc.

It would also be interesting to know what, if any, vinyl is reissued from original masters and which are remasters, and whether they suck.

I like the Paul Chain reissues done by High Roller, also the Black Hole LP is a favourite of mine. Unfortunately I can't compare them with the originals but they sound good to me!

Dismal Euphony's Soria Moria Slott remaster with the nice bonustrack. I haven't listened to the original anymore after getting that one.
