Well i find this new album superior to it's predecessor. Warmer production, not as digital sounding as Ominous, catchier songs, more vocal variety. I bought the cow leather and the digipack. Arrived on time here.

It's been a long time since i listened so often to one album;the first week i didn't listen to anything else. Some riffs, especially during the faster parts, can be heard better on the headphone. Try it.

The more I listen, the more I like it; the focus on fast/slow dynamics is their most effective yet to these ears. I also really enjoy the little subtleties in phrasing and melody with this particular production.

It'll need some more time before I can second such a statement.

Maybe you should also set up an USBM council that will debate whether such conclusions are acceptable.

No offense, but I find it funny when people perceive metal albums as something that takes times to be truly understood.

My favourite records are the ones that took some time to sink in. Instant gratification is not why I listen to Black Metal.

Some metal albums are growers. Inquisition's albums are constructed in a way that is pretty straight forward. Not simplistic, but able to pick up most everything that is being conveyed right away.

Ominous is easily the better album. It took me one listen to it to figure out that it's near the top of their works. Obscure has the better production with B-side material. Figured that out after 1 listen.

I would say I am a pretty big fan of Inquisition and I think this album is kind of lame. It's just a bunch of rehashed riffs thrown together...just sounds like B sides of Ominous Doctrines.

Invoking > Infernal Regions > Ominous Doctrines > Nefarious > Magnificent Glorification > Obscure Verses

this is well put, he's been doing that since Invoking IMO. ( magnificent...was very primal and it dosent count) but at least these techniques he's using aren't that bad. theyre really carefully/imagnatively choosen. so in a way hes masking the material really good. hes a real pro at that. i'd say the last album aint bad, its just that its kinda leaning towards blackmetal/heavy metal cliche records of our time. this is by no means a lazy records, its just didnt ripe as a whole (in terms of base-melodies of riffs and ideas before the recordings) , and i doubt folks in , say 2030, will count this anything near to their mandatory purchases of 00's & '10 bm releases. presonally after the initial spin i doubt i will repeat the album anytime soon, but still i see it as a 3/5 grade-record and thats kinda weak by earlyer inquisition standards. not bad by any means but i guess they spoiled me with their first 2 records.
not to get me wrong, its still agreat band, i'd like em to continue in what their doing as long as they have the drive. theyre really great live band and you can see theyre enjoying it.
