One of my favorite "genres" these days.

Christian Death - Only Theater of Pain, Catastrophe Ballet
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography
Siouxsie & the Banshees - The Scream, Juju
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures, Closer
Mighty Sphincter - Ghostwalking
Sisters of Mercy - Some Girls Wander By Mistake, First and Last and Always
Fields of the Nephilim - The Nephilim

Sorta fit the category:
Codeine - Frigid Stars, Barely Real, The White Birch
Samhain - November Coming Fire
This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears, Filigree and Lace

all above listed are great and worthy of checking out...At the moment Im listening to Bloody Dead And Sexy...sure they are newer but fucking great.

Christian Death is TOP NOTCH. Only the stuff with Rozz though IMO.
Bauhaus and Joy Division go without saying though Im not much of a New Order fan.
Sixx was meh... but if someone new to the genre heard that and liked it, its definitely a good "gateway drug".
Alaric are fantastic same Atriarch
Check out old and mid era SWANS and old stuff by The Cure.

more shit will come to my mind later too Im sure.

"What should I listen to.. what's cool?!?"

What happened to diving into a genre and checking it out on your own..? Too much 'work' for people nowadays..?

Is there anything else which sounds similar to Only Theatre of Pain-era Christian Death?

One band I really liked that only released a single album back in the late nineties was Creeps On Candy. "Wonders of Giardia" is a great record.
