Sex Gang Children

Pretty much my favorite band in this genre; really like the vocals, pretty unique.

Some things I have heard I like that fit into the thread.

More New Wave than Goth Rock and I normally can't stand female vocals at all, but still I really recommend this album (the debut is not so good):

Fuck me, didn't remember how great music this actually was until I laid my hands on a Hexenhaus compilation Lp couple of days ago! Here are few Finnish goth rock (/post punk) bands from the golden 80's that leap to mind:

Musta Paraati - Romanssi/Kädet 7" (1982)

Silmät - Haudattu 7" (1983)

Psyyke - Temppeli 7" (1984)

Hexenhaus - Ikiyö 7" (1984)
On a side note, Ektro Records has just released LPs worth of Hexenhaus material from the years 1984-1987. Go pick it up!

These are just a tip of the iceberg and there are/were lots of Finnish bands doing this kind of music.

Here is a few some people haven't mentioned yet... I used listen to this stuff a lot more back in the day.

Cinema Strange - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG1nYR0Hw-s

Atriarch (they mix metal w/ a Christian Death type of sound - evident in this rack) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0CnT1pHp-0

David Galas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVxn7YtUB-E (can't recommend this guy enough - I'd say this borders on goth rock)

Faith and the Muse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqYLSTUJIr0

This Empty Flow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3_jfPHL7QU

You can also check out Bella Morte (Where Shadows Lie album - still borderline goth rock), March Violets, the Mission UK, Ausgang, etc etc

Those two bands came to my mind too when reading "death rock" but maybe I've misunderstood the whole genre. I mean, everyone seem to offer more gayish pop/rock bands

haha, I love Codeine, but for this thread? Confused

you're probably right. I don't know, for me Death Rock is kind of it's own thing but goth is essentially just dark post-punk (e.g. you could easily argue DCD fits the category, although they are really different). Codeine being a post-rock band with the emotional heaviness of something like early The Cure, I thought it might could be applied. Anyhow, that's why I said "genre".
