Any love for For Against? Criminally underrated US band...arguably more on the outer edge of the term "goth", more toward postpunk and maybe dreampop. Still the album "December" is a masterpiece. Like the jangle of REM and The Byrds blended with Joy Division or something.

Not sure if this fits into this category or not, but ought to appeal to people here is this little obscurity. Very catchy it is too:

Eleven Pond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA_EijC-7Lw

Also some of you may like a newer band called Savages, who have a bit of a Joy Division vibe if they were all women. A lot of hipsters have hopped onto the bandwagon with their music, but don't let that put you off.

The Cure (obviously), Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim, Sex Gang Children, 45 Grave, Dead Can Dance and Rosa Crux are all worth checking out.

Was reading an article about cold cave being the "saviours" of goth rock, that kind of pisses on all the bands who have been doing this sound for the last 20 years!

Zoon is totally underrated. Great concept, performance and songwriting. The vinyl version well worth getting. McCoy goes for more of an industrial metal approach- weird but it works. That was pretty much the last decent record he did.

"Zoon", one of my favorite albums of all time.
