I'll be in Zurich September 11-18. If anyone knows of concerts close by (especially on Sat/Sun), good shops, food, obscure religious things, etc. I would appreciate it!

http://www.metalfactory.ch/concerts/concert.htm helped a little when I was there (just got back actually) and there is a record store in Olten which I didn't get a chance to visit either. It should be easy to get to by train.

Not sure how far it is from Zurich, but there's the Giger museum/Bar in Gruyeres.

It's half an hour by train from Zürich to Olten. The "Outsider" is a good record-store if you have enough money (and AFAIK, it's the only one left in the whole country that focusses on Metal). Otherwise forget about Olten, terrible "city".

It's quite a trip and not really worth it.

culture

Kunsthaus Zürich - Museum of art http://www.kunsthaus.ch/en/

Landesmuseum - Swiss National Museum http://www.nationalmuseum.ch/e/index.php

old town/Niederdorf - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niederdorf,_Z%C3%BCrich#Niederdorf

Lindenhof http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindenhof_hill

Cabaret Voltaire - The birthplace of Dadaism, http://www.cabaretvoltaire.ch/

Food:

Zeughauskeller Zürich - pricey but a very nice place. Try the "Eidgenoss-Bier" it's a flambéed beer with liquor in a big chalice, food won't disappoint you in any case if you like meat or sausage http://www.zeughauskeller.ch/en/dynasite.cfm?dsmid=108710

Try one of the following restaurants to eat a nice "Cordon Bleu". (pan fried meat wrapped arround cheese and ham) - Aargauerhof, Hohlstr. 43, 8004 Zürich or Rheinfelder Bierhalle, Niederdorfstr. 76, 8001 Zürich

Shops:

Record Store, Weinbergstrasse 31, 8006 Zürich - Best place for vinyl in Zurich.

I also recommend you a one-day trip to Konstanz (Germany). A very nice lakeside city on the Swiss/German border. You'll find there another very nice record store. (90 min train ride from Zurich main station)

Feel free to contact for further questions.

Deathcult are playing at the 21st. So maybe you want to extend your visit for a few days Wink
http://www.mehsuff.ch/images/stories/konzerte/flyer/2013/20130921/flyer.jpg

Else I dont have any entries in my calendar regarding gigs.

There is some new trendy "metal" bar in the niederdorf in Zurich called Ebrietas. Might check that as it usualy is a place to find some folks..
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ebrietas

If you have a car or want to travel a few hours I can name you ossuaries nearby. There are a few around Zurich and many more farer away..

PM if interested.

Zero Zero in Baden was a cool record store too, right next to the bahnhof. It's pretty pricey though (roughly 25 CHF for stuff).

Walk the old city in Zurich, grab a beer and sit on a bench and look over the river near the Rathaus bridge. It was nice.

it's 5 walking minutes from the train. immense vinyl offer!!!
it is pricey though - have a look at the online shop.

Yes, but they also know bootlegs and Jewish prices. Be forewarned.

Talk to the huge, friendly guy. Not the small, grumpy one.

agreed.

Food:
if you like asian food, there's a small take away with some seating places in the Preyergasse (Lee's), plate is about 20chf which is quite pricey for a take away but you will be well fed.
along the Niederdorfstrasse you'll find a lot of take aways (avoid the kebab shops) e.g. the Sternen Grill for a cheap but good piece of meat.

if you're looking for 5* food, or something in particular, let me know, I know some places.

Culture:
for eye candy go to the lake, sit down with a beer and look at the girls. time will fly.

if you're a nature guy you could visit the "botanischer Garten" http://www.bg.uzh.ch/index_en.html
or the "Sukkulenten Sammlung"
http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/sukkulenten

other than that and the ones mentioned above I find zurich very poor for cultural interests. Lucerne, Berne and Basel have more to offer, but that's just me.
