Art that envokes the lord of the rings, because it will probably be terrible cheesy european power metal.

A bands logo appearing in easily read normal font (but was a different hand-drawn one on previous albums)

Using a shadow filter on the font.

Monstrosity has some horrible 'digital' album covers too, but they rule.

I can't imagine why anyone would buy anything blindly online. Not having heard it is one thing, but one would think the buyer would at least be familiar with the label+buzz around the band etc when doing that, and so would have a pretty good idea of what to expect. If you buy something unknown online because the song titles/art/whtever else seem cool, you're an idiot.

I occasionally buy complete unknowns in a used shop, but I don't approach it from the perspective of 'why should I *not* buy this album.' Instead, I'll only buy a used unknown if something suggests it has low risk of being bad. In most cases, that's a combination of label+date--if I know the type of tunes that label was putting out during those years & like most of it, I'll try it out. I never buy stuff 'for the art' or pass 'because it has dumb art' etc.

?! What's wrong with reverb on the drums? As long as it's not used ridiculously of course (ie: you hear the reverb more than the drum itself...)

I feel like too many bands use it to create "atmosphere" even in moderate doses.

Vassafor's Obsidian Codex is bumming me out right now. Unnecessary reverb coats everything like a fine phosphorous film. I wish I could find a positive correlation between band name and reverb abuse on records. I'd avoid those records.

This.

Plus:
- "Featuring Ex/Current members of..." as a selling point.

- Obi-strips with kerrang/terrorizer giving the album a 10/10.

- The involvement of a huge number of individuals who annoy me in some other band.

- Having the words "(Dub remix)" or simply "(Dub) anywhere in the track listing, even as a bonus track.

- If it includes the words "Morbid Angel" and a release date that is later than 2003.

- Overtly "anarcho" slogans in the song titles/artwork.

- Ed Repka cover art and a release date that is post 1992.

- Anything that proudly touts itself as a limited "die hard" edition of 5000.

Reminds me of that Behemoth compilation that was strictly limited to 10000 copies.

Strictly limited to a higher amount than most underground metal albums sell in a decade...after multiple represses...on multiple formats.
