i would love to see blood music or the crypt give this album the vinyl treatment it deserves .

could do with a re master too

This one was on our radar for a while. We tried a month or two ago and got no response. Cacophonous is not the easiest to work with, unfortunately.

This should be interesting. Waiting for a shockingly bad keyboard sound.

And hey, did you know that Bal-Sagoth is kind of back?

Born in the shadow of the brooding Yorkshire hills, KULL was forged by members of DYSCAPHIA and the barbarian metal kings themselves, the mighty BAL-SAGOTH.

Tarkan Alp - Vocals
Chris Maudling - Guitars
Jonny Maudling - Keyboards/synths
Alistair MacLatchy - Bass
Paul "Wak" Jackson - Drums

Missing Byron, but the Maudling brothers are in, which is what matters. The vocalist sounds like a newbie, but there's a fair amount of promise in this. You know, Bal-Sagothwise.

Have they ceased activities in the first place? MA lists them as active, and they did play a gig in Portugal a couple years back.

The last time I checked their FB page it said something about the band being in the studio so pretty sure they intend to release an album sooner or later.

Actually Tarkan has been playing in bands for a long time. He's a great guitarist, but unfortunately none of his bands ever seemed to quite get off the ground. He actually sang for the last couple of Bal-Sagoth gigs when I think Byron went "missing in action". I saw one of those gigs, and it was one of the worst gigs I've ever seen. Not his fault, but it was obvious that he'd stepped in that day unprepared, but it had to be the worst sound at a gig I've ever witnessed. You literally couldn't hear the keyboards at all, and the guitars were just high frequency noise, none of the riffs were discernible at all. It was kind of like Bal-Sagoth performing something from the Nyogthablisz demos, haha.

This demo sounds like there's some good parts, I'd like to hear it recorded properly then. I found Jonny handling the production on the last few Bal-Sagoth albums ruined them with that dreadful electric kit he uses on everything.

I agree with Forca, vinyl for all Bal Sagoth, my perosnal favorite is The Power COsmic also love Black Moon Broods over Lemuria. Demo release should be cool. Not sure how feel about new vocals yet though.

If the 1993 demo sounds like the first album, it can be cool.
If it's just a standard underground death metal demo...

Edit: in fact, the two main songs were re-recorded on the first album.

Have the CD in stock now. Since I traded them as MCD, they will be sold for that price (7 euro) of course. Great to hear these tracks/versions again after getting them via tapetrading ages ago. The production and songwriting is more primitive than the first album of course, giving the songs a bit more death/doom sound.

So Kull aka Bal-Sagoth has released a preview of a new song.
https://www.reverbnation.com/kull/song/27528264-vow-of-the-exiled-extract

Honestly? Drums sound as bad as you'd think and this Tarkan guy sounds like someone doing their first harsh vocals at the age of 16. I'm thinking the musical ideas haven't changed for the worse at all, but the modern day metal shortcomings are pretty effectively nullifying every possibility for this to be an enjoyable listen. Based on their Facebook commentary, they were totally aware of the sound and don't hear anything wrong with the vocals.

When you do good stuff, how do you always become oblivious to what made it good 20 years later?
