I'm well acquainted with Death SS, Mortuary Drape, Necromass, Maldoror/Funeral Fog, Theatres Des Vampires, Funeral Oration and Aborym. Any other acts that are worth checking out? (preferably from the 90s)

They're late 90's early 00's(i think still active) but Altar of Perversion are pretty great.

I've always liked the traditional approach of early the true endless. check out wings of wrath. haven't really followed them in the last 8 years or so though.

DUNGEON!

Most of the other Italian bands are a bit too theatrical for my taste.

maybe you could check out the a bit too cheesy EVOL.

not quite 90ies, but Beatrik and tenebrae in perpetuum aren't that bad.

Good, that's what I was going to suggest as well.

I didn't mind Spite Extreme Wing. Decent stuff.

Spite Extreme Wing? From more straightforward and relentless to a bit more progressive even. Last album had a Beatles cover! Good band, but I always felt like it could have been more. But still - with tracks like these, can hardly not like them..

I can't think of many others at this hour but I remember a shitty as hell synth band called Adversam. I wonder how bad it sounds nowadays...

Just noticed this rather good looking digipak in my shelf from a band called Mystical Fullmoon. EP from 1998. I have no idea what this was like, will have to look into it.

Of course the greatest Italian band I can think of is IANVA with their mesmerizing blend of neofolk, classical, spaghetti western, cabaret, tango and topped with a fateful, bittersweet fighting spirit. Direct connection with SEW too.

I'm going to bed.

The post-Dungeon band Brisen is decent as well, although I prefer Dungeon.
