Destroyer of World isn't that bad.

The only thing I would debate is that it's probably not as bad as "Octagon" (which is the worst Bathory-album IMHO). But two acceptable epic songs don't save the mess in between.

Under the Sign...

When it comes to black metal, that album is the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.

Blood on ice

Viking era Bathory > bm era Bathory

Blood On Ice is one hell of an underlooked and underappreciated album.

That being said, I didn't vote on this poll, as it's near impossible. It's a three way tie between the first three for me.

Viking era of course is equal with the bm.
Blood on Ice includes ''the Lake'' .Only for this opus, the record is eternal .
True music, emotional, with the wild and dark beauty of Northern Scandinavian countries..
I wonder why some people here are listening to Metal..What Heavy Metal is supposed to be?Epic, pagan, proud for history, glory of war, ancestors,Nature.
All those elements are included to the maximum to those Bathory albums.
Swedes should be proud for this brilliant musician who honoured so much his country.

The S/T, Return, Under, are all excellent examples of black metal at it's earliest incarnations. However, I personally will always favor the S/T for it's raw aggression. Such great riffs....

I was born in 1984, so, I guess my "vote" is not dependant in any way, but, as for black metal, I would say"The Return" and as for black metal and everything else it is "Blood,Fire,Death" as the ultimate underground metal masterpiece

How is that comment laughable? I'd question the sanity of anyone who doesn't consider one of the early Bathory albums to be in the running for best black metal album of all time. It's not like we're talking about some recent band here.

I was thinking between The Return and Under the Sign... but finally I chose the latter since it is even more dark and obscure. Quorthon made a step forward through finding the perfection in the fields of audial darkness summoning. The Return as it was said before me perfectly is an epitome of PURE EVIL, that's what it evokes me. Rough agression, smashing malice and a true possession that resulted a PURE EVIL work. I liked Blood Fire Death for the musical improvements too and the self-titled is without a doubt a great classic but Under the Sign and The Return are the two most importants for me.

THE RETURN for a fucking mile. Everything on that recording reeks of pure wickedness and hatred, plus that cocaine-fueled Motörhead impersonation in "Bestial Lust" is one of my favourite moments in extreme metal history. Who doesn't love women drinking sove with greed?

Under the Sign for me... although For All Those Who Died is my favorite single Bathory song.
