Show No Mercy. Barely anything sounds like it, before or after. It's perfect. I kinda wish they had made that album and stopped, and we'd have far less retarded Slayer fans. Very Happy

Really bold statement.

Show No Mercy took a little while longer to grow on me, coming to it from Hell Awaits and RIB...but it has to be one of the best metal debuts ever, gimme Show No Mercy over Kill Em All any day of the week.

Impossible to decide, like asking what's more important: air or water?

Both are unimaginably big, but Hell Awaits wins.

Love both of those albums, but Show No Mercy, while a consummate heavy metal album, doesn't have the evil atmosphere. Hell Awaits wins by a nose.

The rotten, suffocating atmosphere of hell awaits is insurmountable. A one hundred percent perfect Sophomore release.

Show No Mercy is the clear winner for me. Both are pretty much flawless though so it doesn't really matter.

I like how Haunting The Chapel is a perfect mix of both full lengths styles.

If I could only keep one record it would be Hell Awaits.

Hell Awaits, just barely. Both are phenomenal albums.

Both releases suffer from an aging production, resulting in two different effects :

on Show No Mercy, it enhances the oldschool Heavy Metal feeling.

on Hell Awaits it weakens the agressivity/modern thrahs approach (basically there are a lot of similarities between Hell Awaits and Reign In Blood, but one can not hear it just because of the enormous difference between the production of this 2 records). Hell Awaits would have been better with Rick Rubin imo.

In conclusion, Show No Mercy !!!

One of the things I don't like about Reign in Blood is that it lacks the production of Hell Awaits, which is a really evil record.

Reign in Bloods production is perfect for the material. A murkier production, which adds to Hell Await's charm, would've blunted the impact of the songs on RIB.
