I hate these fucking things. What is the idea behind them? Just something new and novel? I guess you can get art on the top and bottom spines with one of these, and maybe they're a little sturdier. Is there some other huge improvement over a regular jewelcase that I'm not noticing?

The industry has to invent something new all the time...

I like Digipaks from the looks. What I don't like is that they wear very quickly. You can replace a jewel case easily, but not so a Digipak.

I've heard that those round corner jewel cases shouldn't break so easily if you drop them on the floor..

F.O.A.D. by Darkthrone came out in a rounded-corner CD case... at least the Canadian version did. I don't know what the difference is, really, but if it breaks it's quite irreplaceable.

I got lost of medieval music in this kind of box. These were SACD's so at first I thought it was a different package to get these more visibility to customers.
Then it seems that it's more spread these days, so that's not the reason. And well, I find them more durable than the usual boxes.

I like a nice well-made digipak - unfortunately they are few and far between. There have been some really cool ones recently (Nominon's last album for example) but even the good-looking ones tend to have problems with being easy to damage, or the teeth that hold the CD coming out. And the bigger labels (like Roadrunner reissue digipaks) are just crappy.

On the issue of durability, I don't understand why the industry hasn't gone to a more sturdy holder for the disc. There are some jewel cases with better ones, and DVD cases have holders that are very difficult to break. But with CDs (especially ones with clear plastic backs, for some reason) the teeth are already falling out half the time when you first open it. It's exasperating.

For keeping the outside of digipaks clean, you have to use plastic sleeves. I ordered a bunch from a site some months ago and I'm so glad I have them.

Aren't the super jewel-cases sturdier than the other CD jewel cases out there?
