I personally find Piece of Mind to be a consistently good album, if there's an album that belongs in this thread then it's Fear of the Dark - the title song is amazing, there are other really good songs and a few average songs, From here to Eternity is a low point in my opinion.

Judas Be My Guide is exceptional.

I'll add Emperor's Prometheus to the list. There are some scorchers on there that wouldn't be out of place on Anthems (Thorns on my Grave, In The Wordless Chamber...) but the rest is a bunch of pseudo intellectual pirate shirt poof.

You are so right. Emperor is unquestionably one of the greatest metal bands ever, but when they are bad they are fucking BAD. IX Equilibrium has this problem too.

100% agree

also 100% agree, and I'll also add early Megadeth as being all over the shop. Awesome catchy thrash mixed with the most boring or cringeworthy shit on the same record, those fucking covers...

Sides B and C are pure 100% filler garbage. But the last two albums are even worse cases of inconsistence, but so are all albums after BNW.

Whoever said Ride the Lightning deserves a slap on the face!

Good call! I love that album, but the quality of songs definitely varies - a lot!

I love Prometheus, but I can see why it's devisive. But IX Equilibrium??? Always felt like the perfect progression from everything that came before it.

I like that album a lot. I just think the songs shift around in quality quite a bit.

Bal-Sagoth "A Black Moon Broods over Lemuria". I never liked the album because of the constant switching between Black Metal and Death Metal. It was like listening to an album that has Tourette syndrome.

Korova "A Kiss in the Charnel Fields" is another album that didn't click with me.

And an album that is 'diverse' in many ways but is done well is "The Golden Hour" by Firewater. Reminds me of something that Kazik would come-up with with his band Kult (Poland). Firewater is not a Metal band by any means and the mentioned album is the only recording I like by this band. I discovered them by accident while google-ing for something not related to music.

Came to post this. Damn, that side B is such a let down from the classic tracks on side A.
