does anyone know were i can get a decent record player?

Ebay. Buy an old high-end recordplayer on ebay. These high-end players, from around 1975-1985, where the best ever built. Afterwards the quality declined, it was tried to make them cheaper in all ways (plastic instead of metal everywhere) and no really new features were added.

I bought a Dual 721 recordplayer, one of the best Dual ever built for 120 Euros, including a great Shure V15-III system that plays Metal like it should be together with a decent original needle. I really dig the Shure system. I had a Pioneer-system and an Ortofon OMB-10 system with other players, but the were not Metal enough, they had a strong point with high frequencies, but the downtuned guitar/bass-riffs didn't sound too good. The punch was lacking compared to CDs. Now with the Dual 721 it is really really good.

I also tried to buy it here in Germany close where I live so that I can drive there after auction's end, get a small demo and then take it with me in my own car, and without any post-guy fucking the parcel up.

Though, Dual is an old German company and they built only some ten thousands of US-styled systens using 115V/60Hz instead of 230V/50Hz. However, on ebay.com are enough cool turntables for low prices. All these nice Technics SL1200/SL1210...., Throens' and Garrads'... hahaha...

When I see a plastic tonearm on a record player, I get a itching feel close to my left ball... Wink

I was given a Technics SL1210MK2 - it is really really great so I'd recommend that!

Seriously, Technics turntables are for DJ's, not for an audiophile listening.
