Got a older friend who i'm trying to metalize a bit slowly over time. First thing he complains about normally is compression and loudness in recordings. Too many of my CDs are remastered so it's tricky to give him the proper experience. Probably pointless showing him anything extreme, lately he's got into Steven Wilson solo albums and rates his work. Cheers in advance.

Not a favourite album by any means, but Blood Incantation's Starspawn was advertised as produced entirely in analog and is a pretty good album.

Didn't realise that. I don't mind that album, even though i prefer the EP. Will revisit.

Electric Wizard, Furze and numerous psychedelic/stoner doom bands, but they're out of focus I guess.

The newer Opeth albums? (Steven Wilson connection)
Latest Electric Wizard?
Original Classic Rock LPs (Deep Purple, Led Zep, Blue Öyster Cult etc.)?

Yep. I've actually never heard Agents of Fortune or Spectres so i reckon those should be first off the rank.

Ov corpse a properly mastered album that preserves the full dynamic range of an album is how it should be done, was done, and for the most part is being done again. Except for the worst cases where it has been pushed to the point it's clipped though, it works for most metal cause you want that shit loud! hehe...

The mastering was digital anyway.

If an album sounds like compressed horseshit, it will also sound bad at low volumes.

Yep. I find low volume is the way to test it out.
