How do you feel about Morbid Angel's early material with Mike Browning in the band? Where do you rank Abominations of Desolation amongst the rest of their work?

Personally I like Abominations about as much as Altars, but after that it's downhill for me. I like Blessed and parts of Covenant to an extent but anything beyond those two feels weak and not worth it. Though I do admit there are some great riffs buried in Formulas.

Because of the raw sound on the unofficial release
and the demonical voice of Mike Browning
Abominations.. is THE outstanding MA release for me.

Abominations is alright but I don't get why it receives that much praise. Vocals are pretty fucking good but I vastly prefer Sandoval's drumming over Mike's. Also Altars set the standard for really fast, powerful and tight DM, while Abominations is nothing special in that regard.

Of course not!

Abominations and Altars are tied with me. Depends on my mood.
And Forumlasm, Blessed and Covenant are all outstandingly good as well.

Still remember the first time I heard Chapel of Ghouls... I think it was my first Death Metal song ever.

^ THAT. Altars for me then and now is the shining moment where their promise was fully realized. The shock and the awe as such never really returned. I like Covenant a lot and I like the Browning period a lot, but you know... I LIKE it. I don't involuntarily piss down my leg as with Altars.

Abominations of Desolation is some of the most evil death metal I've ever heard. Primal Death Metal Darkness!
