Great band! Got into Megiddo on the first demo. I wish Chorazaim had released the song "Sacrifice" on a full-length, though; I think that's their best song.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have heard most of them already (minus a few) but you guys reminded me a few I had forgotten of which I just decided to order.

As with the bands I name dropped earlier (Sathanas, Faustcoven, Warhorde) I like my Black-Metal fairly simple, and groovy, with a steady flow of basic yet great riffs, hints of old Thrash mixing up with some rock rhythms, and once again no blastbeats. Some "slow" to mid-paced, almost "Punky" arrangements of drumming and bass distorted with that filthy analogue feel that bands like Hellhammer brought to the world, and early Bathory made perfect. All-in-all I want some dirty minimalism and atmosphere rather than overproduced technicality. I think that sums up the sound and concept of what it is I am stalking.

Been listening to a ton of Barathrum and Anael lately, as well. Any heads up on what I'm looking for, or do I have all the bases covered?

Try Taranis from Poland, or even Xantotol.

Someone already mentioned Taranis, and Xantotol isn't really my "thing".

The Taranis already mentioned was the Belgian one, however if Xantotol isn't for you then the Polish Taranis probably isn't rocking enough either.

Yea these guys are pretty good. I've been listening to a ton of Redimoni, (old)Lord Belial and Countess today, as well. They all pretty much fit the bill for the most part.

The short RITES (FL) promo-demo from a few years back, maybe. First song was total BATHORY. I think it's posted on a blog somewhere...

I tried, but I couldn't get into it. It may have been the recording, though, since I downloaded it on SLSK at something like 98bitrate. I think more motherfuckers need to get into Warhorde, he's got this sound down.

I agree, I enjoy the simplicity and raw sound of their debut quite a bit. Looks like Paul finally recruited a drummer to his cause.

BTW looks like they have a myspace page up and running again.

Ok, so a small list of slow to mid-paced, raw Black Metal bands in the vein of Canada's Megiddo:

Taranis
Faustcoven
Ruins (Ger)
Warhorde
Holy Death
Barathrum
Countess
Weltmacht
Thargos
(some) Urgrund
Sathanas
Anael
Zemial
Front Beast
(old)Rotting Christ
Gravewurm
Hail
Mayhemic Truth
Redimoni

Anyone I am missing?

Chorazaim has started a new band called Sepulchre, supposedly in a raw Amebix/Sodom style. Haven't heard them yet but my new band will be playing with them in mid-march. Looking forward to hearing what he's up to.
