You'll be better off buying two separate one-deck machines. If you don't require high-end sound (which doesn't really even make sense with tapes or especially with metal) just search ebay for decks by brands that are usually the most reliable, i.e. Technics, Sony, Yamaha, Marantz etc.

Where you located? Craigslist.com is really good for buying this kind of thing locally (in the US) and avoiding high shipping costs.

I could offer Sony tape-deck. I bought mine (double deck) less than 1 year ago in Budapest at the Sony shop for cca. 330 USD price!

Get a good old Technics tapedeck off ebay from a reliable ebay-shop. Then clean it one more time, and it should work for $50 or even less.

Before my Yamaha tape deck I had an 80s Technics one went totally unrepaired until it finally died from total overuse. That was the best one I've come across - dbx noise reduction rules!

Pawn shops! Make sure you try it before you leave though. Otherwise you'll purchase a nice tape eating machine.

I got the first player I came across in Tesco which had a CD player too. Seemed a good investment.

I just picked a used Nakamichi CR-1 for $40. Retailed originally for about $300. It's in great condition and sounds amazing.
