Melechesh for sure (but bullshit are they Israeli)

Skyforger
Obtest
Metsatoll (though it might be too "happy" for you even though they use hand made traditional instruments and one of them even teaches folk/cultural workshops)

First post seems a bit university dissertation to me- black metal, non european, exotic blah blah blah.

Listen to Venom- they're from Newcastle, and as every Englishman on this board can confirm- it's like another world!

MAYHEMIC TRUTH is a fantastic one, the In Memorium compilation has great Celtic-inspired sounds. When they changed into MORRIGAN they kept the same sound and the first three albums are fantastic. Lately the releases have gone downill a bit they're still a strong band.

No, I'm with you on that.
I had someone raving about them to me, I listened to them, never spoke to that person again.

probably try ritual day from china, no traditional chinese instruments but riffing wise it has a eastern feeling.
or if you are after that sort of "exotic" stuff made just for selling to western people, you can check out chthonic from taiwan...

Check out Bran Barr - Les Chronicles de Naerg. French Celtic metal with bagpipes and whistle.

The Might Is Right - Nordic Warchants II comp might also have some bands for you. Some of it is on the happy side, but it's a huge 2-disc comp, so you'll find something good for sure...

just listening to Rudra (Singapore):

Be sure to check them out or even better get their CD from Ground Zero. Amazing (at least for me) death/black with exotic elements.

Negura Bunget from Romania might be one to add to the list... not really "exotic", but still worth a mention.

Drudkh - Songs Of Grief & Solitude might also be worth checking out

Drudkh are guys from Hate Forest, which is an NSBM band. No thanks. I know their music is quite good, but I can still get stuff like theirs elsewhere.

I listened to Negură Bunget a while ago, and I think I found them quite boring, too.

I forgot to mention these in my very first post, as their name also fell on Nonpop.

I think it's not so recommended for the first poster. Falkenbach were always partly goofy and joyous even on their early outputs. The later stuff is kind of Disney heathen metal. I like the old shit but my guess is that it's not the stuff he's looking for...

Right, all this Viking/Pagan Metal stuff, bands like Falkenbach, Menhir or Ensiferum, leave the realm of Black Metal, and this even in favor of sometimes joyous melodies.

Yosuke, I had already mentioned them as the last band in my list! But it is no surprise YOU came up with this excellent band.

Both Melechesh and Skyforger were already mentioned. And I give no shit where if the band comes from Israel.

The first post was meant to show what I am looking for:
Stuff that includes lyrical and musical elements of foreign cultures, but still remains Black Metal. Exotic, because I doubt a band trying to include German Volksmusik (yeah, I know this is an extreme example) would still sound grim and cold. If a good Folk Black Metal band is from Europe, I will still like them, but I rather look for stuff from other parts of the world, and while doing this, I want original stuff, not a second Mystifier from Bali or a Wrath of the Tyrant-era Emperor clone from New Zealand. Got it?

And you can also stuff comments like the one about Venom. Try to behave more elite and less moronic.

I am not familiar with their music, but I know the guys are total morons. See this interview for example.

Rudra was mentioned, too. Is it so hard to check if a band was already mentioned (not trying to be disgrateful here)?

I will comment on the other ones when I have the time. Might take a while, especially for those I never heard of.
