Check out Relapse for the Details on this. All studio
albums on 180 g, patches stickers etc. The price is without shipping is 237 usd This is not a commentary on the bands music, but if you think the stock market is bad, bite the bullet, buy one of these, and put it up on ebay about 1 year from now.
Of course the shrink wrap will remain on most of these when purchased
and maybe 10 % of owners will play the LP's.
I have order from Relapse about 5% of the time. The rest, Moribund,
NWN, Kreation, Tzadik, Razorback and other mailorder shops plus buy all I can from the local Indie shops. I play the fuck out of my records because life is short.
Other than giving my full opinion on this, (which probably matches most people on this board) I will set this bomb off now...
What are your thoughts ??

Eh. I don't care about this band. I wouldn't buy this overpriced boxset. Ick.

I don't see this becoming a good earner on ebay considering the price and the limitation. Feel free to buy ten copies though. I'm sure Relapse won't object.

Yeah, I guess I agree on the Ebay thing, I guess the topic shouldn't even
be controversial as they say "each to his own"
I will be purchasing the Mystifier set (and actually keeping it to play the records!) but a lot of people might accuse me of the same.

i really want it but it's way too overpriced, will see how much i have left after buying the mystifier box...

relapse probably thought it's their last chance to have a massive cash in on mastodon so they priced it really high. looks like those records dont even come in proper jackets, just printed innersleeve (like the atheist box). but leviathan and blood mountain are pressed on dlp so i guess the sound would be better than the original single lp press...

Hillarious.... I was actually a guest of a band they played with in Atlanta during the Remission tour. After the show I struck up a converstion with Bran, because of his King Diamond shirt. Turns out he has a good appreciation and extensive knowledge of metal, more so in the traditional style, So I go back to the Mastodon post show room and there was puke all over the floor with PBR cans scattered about.

It would have been a little more justifiable If each record came with thick printed glossy innersleeves, and Gatefolds with some embossed shit on the front. Plus a T-shirt, and some nice etchings on a few sides of the Ep's
This looks too much like the athiest box set. Eeeewww.

and while the atheist box is like $10 per lp, this is almost $30 per lp for me...

I have always liked this band (even though their later stuff is way too proggy for me). For some reason, I have seen them like 2494237 times, including their very first show outside of Atlanta, when they were a 5 piece.

Anyway - yes, cool dudes, and I would definitely be down with getting this boxset (even though I like them and am real familiar with their stuff, I only own their first EP); it needs to be about $150 cheaper for me to ever lay my hands on it. It would rule to get all their shit in one fell swoop, but it is certainly not something I would drop that kind of money on.

Oh - and +1 on Black's comment.

Aren't they working on a new album? The "Air" concept album? Wouldn't it be better to do a boxset then? To include all 4 studio albums (Fire, Water, Earth, Air)? This makes me think no one is thinking ahead, or they realize the next album will suck so they better cash in now...

Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell is Decibel magazine? I may have seen the name before somewhere and even then I probably don't remember it at all. And PBR is a beer brand, right?
