I really enjoyed Saint Vitus, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Electric Wizard and Death breath... Nifelheim always works. And Iron Maiden was sooooo good on somewhere back in time tour.

Iron Maiden - Without a doubt, the best live band

Destroyer666- Best 'underground' live band I've ever seen.Intense

Mayhem w/Attila- Perhaps it's just because it's fresh in my memory, but hearing the entire "De Mysteries......." album (except Funeral Fog..?) played live with a great stage set and lights/atmosphere, and perfect sound was a moment I'll never forget.

Honorable mentions to Inquistition and Sadistic Intent.

I would like to see their live show, their dvds are killer!

Well, and from top of my head best performances I've seen:

-Watain
-Morbid Angel (1st gig when Vincent rejoined)
-Inquisition (they always kick ass)
-saw Mayhem recently, it was a great show, never saw them with Maniac.

The only metal bands I have seen live are Incantation and Nile, and they both absolutely laid waste to the fucking stage. That was something like 9 years ago though Laughing

How come you've seen so few bands live? Isolated area or something?

Lots of reasons, I live in a smaller city with a very limited number of metalheads. We get the occasional mainstream metal act (Mastodon, Lamb of God, etc) but for real metal we get basically nothing. I have had better luck with punk/hc shows but metal is dry as a desert around here...

I'm going to go and see WOVENHAND on the 26th of November. It may be a bit premature, but I am expecting something very special. I wish that I could have seen 16 Horsepower before they broke up.

You will not be let down. DEE is more "intense" than the posturing seen at most metal shows.

Impossible to mention only 3, so I'll mention a few more:

Slayer 86
Judas Priest 84
Iron Maiden 85
Sepultura 89
Testament 88

Today's shows are beyond lame compared to what they used to be, mainly due to the audience's (lack of) involvement. But the last time I saw Sadistic Intent in Chicago a couple of years ago, they destroyed everything and everyone.

I was at that Sadistic Intent show in Chicago (cafe Lura, right?) ...that was a great show. I had actually never heard them before the show, but went to check them out since I'd always heard their name spoken of very highly.... I was not dissapointed and have been a die hard fan ever since!

Hypocrisy and Cannibal Corpse when they where on tour with Vile and Exhumed. I knew nothing about either Hypocrisy or Cannibal Corpse, but became a huge fan of Hypocrisy after the show, and gained some interest in Cannibal Corpse also.
