So how do I make a list of Artist/Origin/Release/Format/Year/Label/Info?

Document? Spreadsheet? I'm new to this..obviously.

You downloaded Open Office right? Open Calc and then add the headings in the first line of grids ie. 1A - Artist, 1B - Origin, 1C - Release etc... Then you can make them bold or however you want the headings to look. You can change font size and style and all that of course. Then below those type in the informations ie. 2A - Archgoat, 2B - Finland etc... If your text doesnt seem to fit into the box, double click on the line between the two letters at the top ie. where the A and B is at the top, the line in between them.

Thats the only way i can remember how to do it easy. There are tricks etc.. to auto fill certain feilds but i can't remember what they are. Havent had to use it for a very long time. Im sure someone will tell you an even easier way to do it if there is...

Better start warming up your fingers! Wink

I forgot to add.. if you want to make all of one line of grid bold or a certain style font etc.. you can right click on the A, B, C, 1, 2, 3 etc.. and go to format cell and do it from there. Just experiment and you will work it out in no time. It might seem daunting at first if you havent used anything like that before.. But you will soon get the hang of it. It is all pretty much universal.

What exactly is the reason to do such a list ?
Only for "tapetrading" purposes ? Or is it to see what you own ? In this case I go through my records instead of an excel file, much better feeling Very Happy

Thanks. But you know what? Too much of a pain in the ass for me. I'll just stick to wordpad and copy and paste. Much easier.

same here actually. the only benefit you have with a spreadsheet is sorting...
I maintain a html file for tape trading, has keys such as lengths, tape number and other comments...

in terms of music cataloging software i use melomania to catalogue my collection. Its not free unless you happen to find it just laying around the internet if you know what i mean. Comes with a 30 day trail for people who arent into that. Its got a pretty decent layout, supports images, searching for releases online through amazon and discogs sites, supports importing of mp3s with lyrics and images in the tags. The only limitations that ive found frustrating is it only supports one image per entry.

for easy copy n paste of entries id try recordnerd.com, its an online cataloging system, no fansy features, just a list similar to a spreadsheat, layed out and ready to go.

Nah, use Excel and forget the useless details...I wanted to order everthing alphabetically as it can be done in Excel but no luck in the real world...

Yeah, a friend of mine uses that website, but I don't really like how it looks.. I would rather design my own website.

I'll leave this chore of figuring out what I have to my son.
Every child should have a purpose.

Personally I care less what I have to have listed, whats a list do anyways ?

If my son fails to be what I expect of a good metalhead I will expect my collection to feed the flames of my funeral pyre. Twisted Evil
