So for my first real thread here I'd like to ask for some recommendations. Sorry if this doesn't seem like the place for it.

I'm in the market for some crushing death-doom, preferably with an old-school feel. Doesn't matter where it's from or if they're new or old. I'd prefer bands that sound more like Asphyx and Slugathor (anyone remember them?) than early Katatonia (which I still love in its own right).

That is to say, more low-end tones and thick-ass rhythm guitar. Positively no "weeping" lead guitar melodies. Dark and sinister atmosphere as opposed to one that's sad and mournful. And bonus points for deep growling vocals and occasional double-bass drumming.

I know the shit I'm looking for is kind of niche, but I'd be very interested to hear what you've got for me. Cheers.

I'm assuming the implication is that bands like Swallow the Sun and October Tide would fall under 'false' Death-Doom.

Listen to October Tide "Rain without end" and you will probably change your idea of false.

That post wasn't intended to judge either band as false. In fact, I only really use the "true/false" dichotomy as a joke. I was getting at the fact that OP essentially asked for no sorrowful, emotional, melodic Death/Doom which is exactly what those kind of bands offer, and I got the impression that he thought of that stuff as 'false'.
