It's actually not a SACD, just a CD. Still sounds great though!

Won't read 14 pages, so I won't mention the widespread classics of the genre. I'll just add/support these mentions:

Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II (pinnacle of this band, IMHO)
Drudkh - The Swan Road
Forest - As a Song in the harvest of Grief (maybe the best full length out of the BBH)
Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines...
Peste Noire - La Sanie des Siecles...

A touch more 'under' if you want:

Lascowiec - Asgard Mysteries
Folkvang - Atmospheric Black
Khors - Return to Abandoned

All of these are great albums, that I rarely or never pass a song when listening to them...

II over the first? Just curious. They're both great... I'd just give I a 10/flawless, and II a 9.

I would say those five, with Fly to the Rainbow replacing Lovedrive. No UJR = No Scorpions

Agree with you, both great albums, except I invert that score, I would be 9/10 and II 10/10 for me...

Didn't like the Blut Aus Nord I've heard after the great Memoria Vetusta II... IMHO abuses of dissonance, change of tempos and weird progressions, like trying too hard to be as "avant-gard" and proggy as Deathspell Omega...
