Just got both of these amazing reissues in the mail, with the additional live bonus LPs. I have to say, these are MASSIVE upgrades from the original presses. Things Viral has the track "Dead" which was prev. only on the CD and No Joy 12", the S/T adds the No Joy remix which is great, and the live LPs are hella cool. I have had MP3s of the WFMU set but it looks like it might have been labelledtagged wrong as it says here the Earth cover is from the WNYU set. Either way, the live sets fucking crush man.

And if you're into this sort of thing, these sound GREAT and they are fucking hella cool looking. Really nice heavy gatefolds that look amazing.

the extras are the previously released stuff on the daymare/archive cd's right or is there new material?

owning vinyl versions and hearing the remixes is tempting. If I already didn't own most of this stuff I would definitely be in to picking these up.

Bonus LPs are the WFMU and WNYU sets from 2002. I think one might be on the Daymare S/T but not both. The S/T comes with the No Joy remix as well. Things Viral adds "Dead" from the CD, "Commuted Coda" from the original Load DLP but not the 3 min improv snippet from the Daymare disc.

The Live LPs are limited to 500 each though, white label deals.

Excited about these bad boys too, eagerly awaiting the colored versions w/ no joy, live stuff - glad to hear they're sounding up to par with the anticipation.

Had to get the self titled just to have "Skin Coat" on vinyl. Been waiting for an affordable copy for years.

I have the originals and blindly ordered these. Khanate is one of those early extreme doom bands that never bored the fuck out of me. Booked them a few times and always blew me away. Wish they were touring instead of Sunn 0))).

I always really liked Khanate when I heard them (and when they were around), but took them for granted and never bought their records. they seemed to bridge a gap between ug metal and noise and avant indie type people. These aren't too limited right?

Dunno. Sold my Khanate albums a while ago, just listened to them less and less over the years. Give me Burning Witch, Sunn O))) and O.L.D. over them any day...

Well hydrahead seems to have plenty, and their distributor redeye also has copies still... Seems to have "been in print" for quite a while now however the colored versions w/ bonus 12"s will probably sell a bit quicker.

Word. So glad I got to see Khanate live.

Wasn't Khanate kind of more James Plotkin's band, rather than Steven O'Malley? Maybe O malley cat didn't like that..?? Pure speculation.

It definitely sounds the way it sounds largely because of his work I would assume, the way it's recorded, post-production, it's fucking incredible. Phantom[atom]smasher is/was incredible too, and sounded out of this world as well.

I have the original s/t 2001 Southern Lord CD in my trade/sell list for ages. 14 Euros plus postage and it's yours.

I think O'Malley had a huge impact on the sound with his guitar work. However, Khanate truly is a band that all four members played a pivotal role. The guitar, bass, drums and vocals are all perfectly suited to the sound and I feel like it was a perfect storm of creativity. I've never gelled as much with the last LP, however given the bender I've been on for them lately I should re-explore it.
