Not sure when they launched this, never heard of this before:

http://ondemand.earache.com/

Basically, it's like kickstarter for vinyl reissues, except you just pay the regular record price, and your payment is sent if there's enough demand for the title you ordered (500 orders at least). Otherwise, you get a refund. A good opportunity to grab some out-of-print titles for a good price shipping included.

What do you think about this ? More labels should do this, that would avoid to pay stupid prices on Discogs. Kind of opportunist for sure, but at least there's no risk for the label, and your money is kept away from record flippers / is used to support the bands...

I would like to see the progress of the record before ordering. Because if a record has been up for option for 6 months and only 20 people have optioned it, I might think twice before dropping $40 on the record and shirt and then waiting a few months to have it refunded months later to get it refunded when they decide not to repress. I can spend that $40 on a record that maybe 300-400 people have optioned and looks more likely to get repressed.

Great initiative i think.

No idea on the quality of their vinyl though. Guessing Earache won't just use CD rips?

They've already answered all of your questions.

Re paying upfront:
"You will not be charged for your order until the demand for the vinyl is met."

Re mastering:
"..then the album will be remastered for the vinyl pressing in a way that's previously brought new life to classic albums from the likes of Entombed, At The Gates, Bolt Thrower and Terrorizer, allowing the music's nuances to shine through and giving each album a more immersive sound than ever before!"

Their FDR (Full Dynamic-Range) reissues are really good, anti-loudness war mastering and that's the way it should be done every time. Can't really say about the normal releases.

Not a bad idea - I've only got Streetcleaner as an Earache OG for my Godflesh collection, and would like to pick up the rest but the prices always seem insane, even on the reissues. I'd kick in for that and upgrade my CDs, and my CD reissues....

Cool initiative, the are going to press what people really want to get!

On the other hand, I have tried to add 2 titles to the cart but for some reason it does not allow me to enter anything beyond a single title. Is there someone else experiencing the same?

With a comprehensible reasoning...

"[Albums] must be ordered separately. Due to the nature of the On Demand products, some albums may get re-pressed and some may not. Ordering multiple On Demand items in the same order would complicate matters if one item meets the target and one does not. You can place as many separate orders as you like for the On Demand products."

Hahahahahaha, about 90 Euro for getting one's name on the thanks list. Brilliant! Don't know what to think of this, to be quite honest. I surely get the previous opinion of this being of value in the sense of "to press what people really want to get". On the other hand it awfully feels like the guys at Earache don't even have trust in their own choices, or the bands for that matter, but want sure sellers. That's kind of sad for a label that pushed the boundaries in its beginning.

please vote for The Key. I have the recent Century Media reissue too, but it's not mastered for vinyl.

Meaning it sounds like shit or just like a CD-transfer ?

I'm interested with a bunch of titles anyway, and it's in. I will pull the trigger later but i'm especially interested for Bolt Thrower's Spearhead / Cenotaph reissue, I've seen a recent bootleg that was apparently decent but I'd prefer something legit with original artwork.

EDIT: I updated the link in the first post.
