Damn, this is amazing. Thank you!

As for recommendations, anything by Kammarheit https://kammarheit.bandcamp.com/
Especially "Somewhere Concealed"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TJEJYpq_Y4

Also anything from Lorenzo Montanà
https://lorenzomontana.bandcamp.com/
I really enjoy his "Phase IX" album

Dimmu Borgir and other over-the-top long-running-time symphonic BM for some reason.

Most stuff by minimalist composers, in particular:

La Monte Young - the Well Tuned Piano

Tony Conrad - Outside the Dream Syndicate

Terry Riley - ‘A Rainbow in Curved Air’ / ‘Persian Surgery Dervishes’

Charlemagne Palestine - Anything (Although Strumming music, Schlingen Blangen and ‘The Apocalypse Shall Bloom’ are my favs)

Rhys Chatham - A Crimson Grial (Any iteration - his guitar symphonies are insane)

Anything by Pandit Pran Nath

Henry Flynt - You are my everlovin’

Astro / C.C.C.C - Anything

Les Rallizes Denudes - Any boot is fine, but ‘Heavier than a Death in the Family’ or ‘Live ‘77’ are probably the best shouts. Maybe a little to intense for bedtime though.

Suishou No Fune (水晶の船) - ‘Prayer for Chibi’

UP-TIGHT - Lucrezia (Again, maybe a little wild)

Toho Sara - Easternmost

静香(Shizuka) - 天界のペルソナ (Heavenly Persona) AMAZING

Keiji Haino - 慈 = Affection (All his stuff really, but this is the release I like most at bedtime, Tenshi No Gijinka 天使の擬人化 is killer too) a big fan of his work with Fushitsusha too. ‘Nijumu - Era of sad wings’ is a fucking great album as well, really dark and mournful.

狼の時間 (Ohkami No Jikan) - Anything (Israel is WILD) basically just listen to anything that Asahito Nanjo had his hand in.

If you can find a download then ‘Holy Angels’ - ‘Metaphysics Meditation’ is dreamy bliss.

BONG (UK) - Last few records in particular.

Ash Ra Tempel - Schwingungen, Self titled and Join-Inn

Manuel Gottesching (sp?) - Anything

Klaus Schulze - ‘Timewind’ but once again, anything

Cluster - Anything

Coedine - ‘Frigid Stars’ / ‘White Birch’

ARVO PART

Soriah - Chao Organica in A Minor (Organ drones and Tusvan throat singing)

Heavy Winged - I love it all, but ‘The Thinner the Air’ is a gem

Grouper - Anything

I usually stay up till I'm nodding off, so I'm asleep pretty quickly when I do go to bed, but I do play music to ward off any unwelcome thoughts of the day from keeping my mind active and awake. I usually only make it through a song or two before I'm out, and I can listen to anything aside from harsh noise, though I've never tried HN yet so maybe that's what it'll be tonight.

yes! i fully endorse this. spent my late teens-early twenties in penitentiaries around Richmond, Virginia. the rock station out of that city did a show from like 1-2am or 2-3am, sunday thru friday, called the Metal File or Metalphile that played death and black metal - it was how i first heard any black metal. so i would set my watch alarm to wake me up every night so i could listen in my cell during night lockdown, usually in a semi-sleep state.

I recently fell asleep whilst listening to Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon. That was unexpected. Laughing

I don't believe in any subgenre called "atmospheric black metal", but this album achieves such perfection in creating an otherworldly atmosphere, that it makes total sense that your mind would go to those abstract places and eventually drift into sleep

Anything by:

Stars of the Lid - [have a playlist file for hot summer nights that spans their entire discography when sleeping is rough]

Yann Novak - Stumbled onto his material on bandcamp focus a little over a year ago. Long sprawling tracks, some subtle low end. Perfect to erase stress with some nice headphones. Quiet yet huge.

Olli Aarni - [Finnish artist aka Nuojuva, Ous Mal ] - Ambient, analogue-y smoke and sleep.

Albums:

Bernard Szajner - Superficial Music [---for the opposite reasons of a nice quiet ambient. Stimulates yet relaxes the wires a bit. Left this looped, low volume one night and years back and still reach for it now and again.]

Tropic of Cancer - Stop Suffering [short, EP, but if you're a playlist type of person...it's a perfect mood setter]

Nurse With Wound - Salt Celeste Marie [Obvious, loop it if you don't know it]
