One of those iconic bands that Ive never heard a single song from.

Where should I begin? Any particular albums first?

Well, you definitely should undergo a self-criticism session for not listening to Amebix until now, since it's one of the most important and relevant underground bands ever.

Generally, as with most bands, you should start chronologically. with the early EP's (Who's the Enemy/Winter/No Sanctuary) and the first LP, Arise!, are absolutely fundamental. But I really like their entire discography, including the latest LP, Sonic Mass, so really, listen to everything.

Start with Arise or the Winter ep definitely. Monolith and No Sanctuary (get the compilation with the additional 7'' which has the Who's the Enemy EP and other tracks) are just as great though and SM is good too, each album recording has a completely unique touch while still being blatantly Amebix which is part of what makes this band extremely important. Utter and eternal worship for all Amebix though.

Indeed. Proceed with No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings comp! Started with Beginning of the End bootleg comp myself... still my fave Amebix stuff.

I think it's really interesting to think about when it isn't the case, such as Rotting Christ. But that's another topic for another thread.

Good thread for me as well, I have not heard anything except for part of Arise!

Well, of course I should, since Amebix is far from being the only well-recognized band I have never even gave a listen to.

Edit: I will check out their EPs as well.

Amebix ‎ No Sanctuary - The Spiderleg Recording

Keep going till Monolith after that you're on your own.

Best band ever, I've noticed I talk too much about them here.
Check out everything from the 80s and then proceed to Axegrinder LP, which to Amebix is kind of what Winter is to Celtic Frost.

Chronological as said above. Essential band with some of the darkest, atmospheric heavy music; one can imagine fog rolling through a distant desolate grassland and feel the dampness on the cobblestone on which one resides amongst a gloomy foreboding atmosphere awaiting for an imminent end, when listening to Amebix.

Arise for the start, but I myself started with their live tape from the show in Ljubljana. Unfortunately their runion recordings are not having the same atmosphere anymore.
