Because obviously for the maker of this poll, long songs = technical.

In the absence of Hellwitch I'll go with Heathen.

Voted for Dark Angel, although Watchtower and Sadus would be close.
Technically speaking, Megadeth's Rust in Piece might be the most inventive piece of that list, Marty Friedman was on fire on that record, his leads sound so fucking exotic.

I was never much of a Megadeth fan, but Rust in Peace is incredible. I love the obvious Mercyful Fate influence in many of the songs.

AJFA is one of my all time favorites, but I would hardly call it "technical thrash"...

Opened this thread to cast my vote for Syzygial Miscreancy. Weird that it's not on the list.

that And Justice for All is winning is kind of mindblowing to me, honestly.

voted for Rust in Peace. Guitar work is untouchable, both riffs and leads.

Out of that lot I'd go for Megadeth - Rust in Peace and Forbidden - Twisted into Form

I'd say that those 2 albums are definitly 'technical' and they are also awesome, the 2 best thrash metal albums of 1990. I'm also a fan of Victims of Deception, it's a big step up from the first Heathen album

Another thrash band that were technical were Destruction, they were one of the bands that pioneered that mindfuck riffing technique (lots of notes and chords sounding like they were randomly cut and pasted together) that death metal bands like Suffocation used.

Release from Agony definitely deserves mention!

Ps. I changed the title of this thread to “The pinnacle of progressive thrash metal”, as that was the term most commonly associated with these albums.

when I heard Twisted into Form for the first time I really didn't think much of it and vastly preferred Forbidden Evil. I couldn't really appreciate the nuance of the songwriting and wanted more straight ahead thrash. Nowadays, I fucking love that album. There's so much to it.

Still, despite all its faults, it was a revolutionary album that inspired tons of bands to write riffs in odd time signatures, much more so than Watchtower - and Hetfield’s tone remains second to none.

Anacrusis should be there too.

Yep. Voted for Rust in Peace, but Screams and Whispers by Anacrusis would come a close second.
