Simple question, since I could not find a good answer anywhere.

What is the first Metal band/project to feature only one member playing and recording all instruments and vocals?

And to make this a more productive thread rather than a single question, what are some of the oldest Metal bands to feature only one recording member, and what was their motivation/reception/history behind it back then?

Godkiller from Monaco. Reason: he was just averagely rich so he became misanthropic. Cool

Earliest I can think of is Steel Warriors. I used to have the EP releases in 1984.

How?, it clearly has three members on the EP, and one session drummer.

It's been a long time! I always thought it was a one man band, with the one dude playing everything. Guess not.

Either way, the song Steel Warriors is a killer tune that still pops up randomly in my mind to this day!

Joe Hasselvander (Death Row/Pentagram, Raven etc...) has always been a one man band, his first record, "Lady-Killer" is from 1985, pretty good stuff! Seem to remember him saying that he was corresponding with Quorthon back in the day as they were both unique in being "one man metal bands". Underrated musician, Hasselvander. Pretty much single-handedly (not to mention thanklessly) responsible for creating the last two Pentagram records really worth a toss.

This band was actually known among tape-traders for a long time and more than one person own their demos (albeit quite a few). Definitely not fake. Musically mix of noisecore and first wave BM (judging by the only song I have heard).
