Sounds like he was digging Deathrow a lot during early days.

Interesting that the Moti Ragnarokum melodies date back to when Varg was 15-16 if this is real.

Edit: After hearing the entire tape, it's almost certainly real.

Cool stuff! Even recent schizophrenic hobo antics cannot spoil that.

A decade ago the mods on M-A thought you were crazy.

I have found a demo on the net that is labeled as the Uruk-Hai demo. It has 6 songs (untitled). I have heard from different sources that Uruk-Hai never recorded anything, and at others that this is indeed a real recording. Is it possible that this is really an Ildjarn demo? Because I know that several Ildjarn demos have been bootlegged as Burzum.

Wow! haha. Shame that ten years ago, I would've been much more excited at finding this.

I don't know why, but the Uruk-Hai tracks remind me a lot of early Iron Maiden more than something the average thrash metal band would play, which is quite surprising to me. Shocked

Also, I think it's surprising how I find the ambient tracks on this tape better than most of all the other ambient albums he's published (i'm looking at you, Dauği Baldrs...).

Varg was a huge Iron Maiden fan. He said in one of his videos when he started his jewtube channel that "Somewhere in Time" is one of the only metal albums he still listens to.

Really? I'm not too familiar with YouTube in general, let alone with his own channel.

On a side note, I'm not surprised he is, I'm pretty sure everyone in the early Norwegian Black Metal scene is/was a fan of them. A funny thing I recall now is that Euronymous used to sell their albums at Helvete, but rarely sold any copies and usually complained how most of the metalheads who were not a part of his Svarte Sirkel thing usually came in his shop expecting to find their average Death Metal records. I think he said that in an interview, can't recall which one, unfortunately.

Here is his top 10 metal albums that influenced Burzum, 3 Maiden albums made it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIEol64f1iY

Can't find that video where he said he only listens to Somewhere in Time and a few other metal albums, maybe that was in an article on his blog. Anyway, yeah, I do hear the Maiden influence as well !

What I find even more remarkable are the clean bits at the beginning and end of the release. Pure magic, especially with that production. Lo-fi goodness.

Kudos to the guy for uploading it!
